Characteristics and predictors of hospitalization and death in the first 11  122 cases with a positive RT-PCR test for SARS-CoV-2 in Denmark: a nationwide cohort
ConclusionsIn this nationwide population-based COVID-19 study, increasing age and multimorbidity were strongly associated with hospitalization and death. In the absence of co-morbidities, the mortality was, however,<5% until the age of 80  years.

Comparison of levosimendan, NO, and inhaled iloprost for pulmonary hypertension reversibility assessment in heart transplant candidates
ConclusionsLevosimendan may be a safe and effective alternative for pulmonary hypertension reversibility assessment or a valuable pre ‐test medical optimization tool in end‐stage heart failure patient assessment for heart transplantation offering extended haemodynamic benefits. Whether it increases the rate of positive responses or allows a better selection of candidates to heart transplantation remains to be established.

Prolonged Circulatory Arrest is Not Associated with Stroke or Mortality after Pulmonary Thromboendarterectomy
Patients with chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH) frequently present with extensive distal clot burden, which adds complexity to pulmonary thromboendarterectomy (PTE). Complete endarterectomy often necessitates prolonged periods of hypothermic circulatory arrest (HCA), the ramifications of which are poorly understood. Objectives were to describe the association of HCA time with post-operative neurologic complications, operative mortality and other major morbidity after PTE.

Left-ventricular hypertrophy in 18-month-old donor rat hearts was not associated with graft dysfunction in the early phase of reperfusion after cardiac transplantation –gene expression profiling
AbstractThe use of hearts with left-ventricular (LV) hypertrophy (LVH) could offer an opportunity to extend the donor pool for cardiac transplantation. We assessed the effects of LVH in 18-month-old spontaneously hypertensive stroke-prone (SHRSP) donor rats and following transplantation. In donors, cardiac function and structural alterations were assessed. Then, the hearts were transplanted into young normotensive-rats. We evaluated LV graft function 1 h after transplantation. The myocardial expression of 92 genes involved in apoptosis, inflammation, and oxidative-stress was profiled using PCR-array. Compared to controls, ...

Development of a Mobile Application Platform for Self-Management of Obesity Using Artificial Intelligence Techniques
Int J Telemed Appl. 2021 Aug 27;2021:6624057. doi: 10.1155/2021/6624057. eCollection 2021.ABSTRACTObesity is a major global health challenge and a risk factor for the leading causes of death, including heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and several types of cancer. Attempts to manage and regulate obesity have led to the implementation of various dietary regulatory initiatives to provide information on the calorie contents of meals. Although knowledge of the calorie content is useful for meal planning, it is not sufficient as other factors, including health status (diabetes, hypertension, etc.) and level of physical activity,...
