Prasugrel Use in Real Life: A Report From the Outpatient Setting in France
The objective of this study was to provide descriptive statistics on patterns of prasugrel usage in the outpatient setting in France. This retrospective study was conducted to describe treatment patterns for prasugrel in the outpatient setting in France using the Intercontinental Marketing Services (IMS) Disease Analyzer database, which collates electronic medical records updated by a nationally representative database of 1200 French general practitioners (GPs). Anonymous data were collected prospectively at each follow‐up visit. The study population consisted of patients with ≥1 prescription for prasugrel in the outpa...

Role of the Stroke Unit in Reducing the Medical and Neurological Complications Post Stroke in Patient Admitted at Royal Hospital from 2009-2015 (P2.318)
CONCLUSIONS: Medical complications that follow acute stroke not only influence mortality but may influence functional outcome. Stroke patients who receive organized inpatient care in a stroke unit are less likely to be developing medical complications post strokeDisclosure: Dr. Al-Hashmi has nothing to disclose. The Effect of Language Barriers on Door-to-Needle Times for IV Thrombolysis Administration in Acute Stroke Patients (P1.266)
Conclusions: We found longer, though not statistically significant, DTN times for LEP patients in comparison to non-LEP patients. Further studies are needed to identify how stroke teams can best address the barriers faced when treating LEP patients. We will perform a sub-study on patients receiving intra-arterial therapy or thrombectomy to elucidate the effect of LEP on door-to-groin time.Disclosure: Dr. Dujari has nothing to disclose. Dissecting pseudoaneurysms: predictors of symptom occurrence, enlargement, clinical outcome, and treatment.
CONCLUSIONS Dissecting pseudoaneurysms have a benign course and most will not cause symptoms or enlarge on follow-up. Medical treatment can be a sufficient, initial treatment for dissecting pseudoaneurysms. PMID: 26824374 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Use of non‐vitamin K antagonist oral anticoagulants in atrial fibrillation patients: insights from a specialist atrial fibrillation clinic
ConclusionIn this specialist AF clinic, patients prescribed NOACs had a favourable adverse event profile with good efficacy for stroke prevention, with a low rate of cessation or switch to warfarin.

Incidence of stroke and seizure in Alzheimer's disease dementia
Background: the objective of the study was to estimate and compare the incidence rates of ischaemic and haemorrhagic stroke and seizure among cohorts with and without Alzheimer's disease (AD) dementia. Methods: we conducted a retrospective cohort study using electronic medical records (EMRs) from primary care practices that participated in The Health Improvement Network (THIN) in the United Kingdom from 1 January 1990 to 31 July 2009. For each AD-dementia patient, we selected one general population control patient without AD-dementia matched to one AD-dementia patient on year of birth, sex and physician practice. Findings:...

Predictors of acute kidney injury after coronary artery surgery in Jordanians
Conclusion Emergency coronary surgery, mitral regurgitation, prolonged inotropic support, and stroke or transient ischemic attack are independent predictors of acute kidney injury following coronary bypass surgery. Further studies involving patients with isolated coronary bypass surgery as well as valve and combined surgeries may be necessary to complete our understanding of this subject.

Healthcare costs associated with cardiovascular events in patients with hyperlipidemia or prior cardiovascular events: estimates from Swedish population-based register data
Conclusions Healthcare costs of CV events are substantial and vary considerably by event type. Incremental costs remain elevated for several years after an event.

Abstract PD4-2: Cardiovascular toxicity following aromatase inhibitor use in 13,273 survivors cared for in a HMO
Discussion These results indicate that variation exists in the type of CVD events that occur in breast cancer patients receiving AIs in comparison to tamoxifen users. For example, the risk of ischemic disease or stroke was not elevated in those who used AIs only versus TAM users. However, overall CVD events were greater in women who used AIs only (or sequentially after TAM), especially if they received left-sided breast irradiation. While these observational study results require cautious interpretation, they provide a basis for comparing the benefits and risks of endocrine treatments. Citation Format: Reina Haque, Joanne ...

Assessment of hospital readmissions in stroke patient population from the Stroke Center at the University of Kentucky: as a quality measure (P5.150)
Conclusions: Our study determined etiologies for hospital readmission after initial stroke hospitalization. Urinary tract infections were found to be the most common cause for stroke readmissions. Further analysis may help to identify risks for readmission and potentially reduce readmission rates.Disclosure: Dr. Al Sawaf has nothing to disclose. Dr. Lee has nothing to disclose.

Retrospective case review of missed opportunities for primary prevention of stroke and TIA in primary care: protocol paper
This study will investigate: (1) the proportion of strokes/TIAs with prior missed opportunities for prevention in primary care; (2) the influence of patient characteristics on missed prevention opportunities and (3) how the proportion of missed prevention opportunities has changed over time. Methods and analysis A retrospective case review will identify first-ever stroke and patients with TIA between 2000 and 2013 using anonymised electronic medical records extracted from the health improvement network (THIN) database. Four categories of missed opportunities for stroke/TIA prevention will be sought: untreated high blood p...

Association between Intracranial Stenosis and Cerebro-Renal Microvascular Damage in a Latin American Cohort. (P1.151)
CONCLUSIONS: physiopatological mechanisms involved in IS and extracranial stenosis (carotid artery disease, CHD and peripheral artery disease) seem to be different. IS is associated with higher burden microvascular damage, which could be related to occlusion of penetrating arteries, embolism to border-zone areas or hemodynamic mechanisms associated with IS.Disclosure: Dr. Zurru has nothing to disclose. AUtomated Risk Assessment for Stroke in Atrial Fibrillation (AURAS-AF) - an automated software system to promote anticoagulation and reduce stroke risk: study protocol for a cluster randomised controlled trial
DiscussionAURAS-AF will investigate whether a simple intervention, using electronic primary care records, can improve OAC uptake in a high risk group for stroke. Given previous concerns about safety, especially surrounding inappropriate prescribing, we will also examine whether electronic reminders safely impact care in this clinical area.Trial registration: ISRCTN 55722437
