Prasugrel-based De-Escalation of Dual Antiplatelet Therapy After Percutaneous Coronary Intervention in Patients With STEMI
CONCLUSIONS: Prasugrel dose de-escalation reduced the rate of NACE and bleeding, without increasing the rate of ischemic events in NSTE-ACS patients but not in STEMI patients.PMID:35129316 | DOI:10.4070/kcj.2021.0293

Comparative study of on-label versus off-label treatment of intracranial aneurysms with the Pipeline embolization device
CONCLUSIONS: In real-world practice, off-label use of PED is common and can achieve similar efficacy as on-label use. However, in aggregate, off-label use was found to carry an increased rate of ischemic complications. With judicious attention to safety and individual patient characteristics, these results highlight the scale and general feasibility of off-label PED use by experts.PMID:35090133 | DOI:10.3171/2021.11.JNS212481

Acute telestroke evaluations during the COVID-19 pandemic
This study is a retrospective database review of all telestroke requests at one academic vascular neurology center telestroke network with seven remote sites in the USA between March 15 and April 30, 2020. Data were compared with historical cohort spanning same time frame in 2019 using parametric or nonparametric methods as appropriate. Among telestroke requests, characteristics of age, gender, race/ethnicity, National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS), primary diagnosis of AIS or transient ischemic attack (TIA), and number of patients receiving intravenous alteplase (IV-rtPA) and endovascular therapy (ET) were rec...

Stroke: A retrospective review of the incidence and epidemiology in a South African academic hospital emergency department
CONCLUSIONS: Stroke is an important healthcare concern for SA. Our study demonstrated a lower mean age of patients presenting with stroke compared with high- and upper middle-income countries, and a higher proportion of haemorrhagic strokes. Several modifiable risk factors such as hypertension and diabetes were identified. Data collection on a regional and national level is important to drive targeted healthcare initiatives.PMID:34949308 | DOI:10.7196/SAMJ.2021.v111i12.15682
