Research on Hepatocyte Regulation of PCSK9-LDLR and Its Related Drug Targets
AbstractThe prevalence of hyperlipidemia has increased significantly due to genetic, dietary, nutritional and pharmacological factors, and has become one of the most common pathological conditions in humans. Hyperlipidemia can lead to a range of diseases such as atherosclerosis, stroke, coronary heart disease, myocardial infarction, diabetes, and kidney failure, etc. High circulating low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) is one of the causes of hyperlipidemia. LDL-C in the blood binds to LDL receptor (LDLR) and regulates cholesterol homeostasis through endocytosis. In contrast, proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin ...

Risk factors for stroke in a population of central China: A cross-sectional study
This study sought to investigate and analyze the distribution of stroke population and the main risk factors for stroke occurrence in a Chinese population, and to predict the probability of stroke occurrence in high-risk groups with risk factors, so as to provide a scientific basis for the comprehensive prevention and treatment of stroke. A whole-group sampling method was used to investigate 1009 participants in Jingzhou city in central China, and a uniform questionnaire survey and related medical examinations were conducted. The risk factors for stroke in the area were analyzed by univariate analysis, and a multifactorial...

Based on voxel-based morphological analysis to investigate the effect of acupuncture-rehabilitation therapy on hippocampal volume and its neuroprotective mechanism in patients with vascular cognitive impairment with type 2 diabetes mellitus: A study protocol
Discussion: This trial can clarify the effect of acupuncture-rehabilitation therapy on hippocampal volume and its intervention mechanism on oxidative stress injury in VCI patients with T2DM, and clarify the scientific connotation of its neuroprotective mechanism in the VCI patients with T2DM, in order to provide a theoretical basis for the clinical application of acupuncture-rehabilitation therapy in the treatment of VCI. Association of total cholesterol and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease in patients with follicular thyroid cancer: A real-world study from Chinese populations
The association between serum total cholesterol (TC) level and incident atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) in patients with follicular thyroid cancer postthyroidectomy is unknown. This was a retrospective study and patients (n = 384) were divided into low and high TC groups according to the median TC level. Incidence of composite ASCVD (myocardial infarction, ischemic stroke, and cardiovascular death) was compared between these 2 groups and factors contributing to the association of TC and ASCVD were evaluated. Patients in the high TC group were older and more likely to have diabetes and have higher C...

Intrinsic capacity and its associations with incident dependence and mortality in 10/66 Dementia Research Group studies in Latin America, India, and China: A population-based cohort study
ConclusionsIn this study we observed a high prevalence of DICs, particularly in older age groups. Those affected had substantially increased risks of dependence and death. Most needs for care arose in those with DIC yet to become frail. Our findings provide some support for the strategy of optimising intrinsic capacity in pursuit of healthy ageing. Implementation at scale requires community-based screening and assessment, and a stepped-care intervention approach, with redefined roles for community healthcare workers and efforts to engage, train, and support them in these tasks. ICOPE might be usefully integrated into commu...

Evaluation of a package of risk-based pharmaceutical and lifestyle interventions in patients with hypertension and/or diabetes in rural China: A pragmatic cluster randomised controlled trial
by Xiaolin Wei, Zhitong Zhang, Marc K. C. Chong, Joseph P. Hicks, Weiwei Gong, Guanyang Zou, Jieming Zhong, John D. Walley, Ross E. G. Upshur, Min Yu BackgroundPrimary prevention of cardiovascular disease (CVD) requires adequate control of hypertension and diabetes. We designed and implemented pharmaceutical and healthy lifestyle interventions for patients with diabetes and/or hypertension in rural primary care, and assessed their effectiveness at reducing severe CVD events. Methods and findingsWe used a pragmatic, parallel group, 2-arm, controlled, superiority, cluster trial design. We randomised 67 township hospitals in ...

Non-pharmacological intervention for rehabilitation of post-stroke spasticity: A protocol for systematic review and network meta-analysis
Conclusion: The results of this study will provide evidence to judge whether non-pharmacological interventions are effective interventions for patients with post-stroke spasticity. Ethics and dissemination: The results of this meta-analysis and meta-regression will be disseminated through publication in a peer-reviewed journal and presented at a relevant conference. The data used in the network meta-analysis did not contain individual patient data. Therefore, ethical approval was not required. INPLASY registration number: INPLASY202140059

Analysis of individualized antiplatelet therapy for patients of acute coronary syndrome after percutaneous coronary intervention under the guidance of platelet function: A one-center retrospective cohort study
There is controversy in clinical application of antiplatelet drugs by monitoring platelet function. Therefore, we explored whether early and dynamic medication could bring better clinical outcomes for patients under the guidance of platelet function tests (PFT). In this retrospective cohort study, we analyzed the prognostic events of 1550 patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) at Tianjin People's Hospital in China. They received dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) from January 2017 to December 2018. The primary endpoint was based on the Bleeding Academic Research Consorti...

Verification and comparison of three prediction models of ischemic stroke in young adults based on the back propagation neural networks
This work aims to explore risk factors for ischemic stroke in young adults and analyze the Traditional Vascular Risk Factors Model based on age, hypertension, diabetes, smoking history, and drinking history. Further, the Lipid Metabolism Model was analyzed based on lipoprotein a [LP (a)], high-density lipoprotein (HDL), low-density lipoprotein (LDL), apolipoprotein AI (apo AI), apolipoprotein B (apo B), and the Early Renal Injury Model based on urinary microalbuminuria/creatinine ratio (UACR). Besides, we estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR), cystatin C (Cys-C), homocysteine (Hcy), β2 microglobulin (β2m), and vali...

Sex- related differences in the factors associated with outcomes among patients with strokes of undetermined source: a hospital-based follow-up study.
CONCLUSION: The factors associated with outcomes in SUS differed by sex. For male patients, more severe stroke and hyperlipidemia were associated with poor outcomes in SUS. Risk factors for poor outcomes in female patients were stroke severity, age, and TC level. These findings suggest that taking measures to manage blood lipid levels and severe stroke among patients with SUS are important for both male and female patients and are crucial for reducing the burden of stroke in China. Development and validation of a 2-year new-onset stroke risk prediction model for people over age 45 in China
Multiple factors, including increasing incidence, poor knowledge of stroke and lack of effective, noninvasive and convenient stroke risk prediction tools, make it more difficult for precautions against stroke in China. Effective prediction models for stroke may assist to establish better risk awareness and management, healthier lifestyle, and lower stroke incidence for people. The China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Survey was the development cohort. Logistic regression was applied to model's development, in which the candidate variables with statistically significant coefficient were included in the prediction model...

Contemporary Prevalence and Risk Factors of Carotid Artery Stenosis in Asymptomatic Low-Income Chinese Individuals: A Population-based Study.
CONCLUSIONS: These findings suggest that the prevalence of CAS remains high in low-income individuals. Male sex, older age, current drinking, diabetes, and high levels of LDL-C, SBP, and FBG increase the risk of CAS. Thus, to prevent cerebrovascular disease and reduce the severe disease-associated burden for low-income individuals, there is a definitive need to control the risk factors of CAS.
