Honey flower dermatitis: Contact allergy to ellagic acid in Melianthuscomosus
Food Chem Toxicol. 2023 Jul 21:113956. doi: 10.1016/j.fct.2023.113956. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTA case study is reported whereby a patient with no prior allergies developed a strong and spreading delayed-type hypersensitivity reaction to Melianthus plants, nectar and synthetic pigment derived from it after frequent handling of these substances. The lesions improved after treatment with topical steroids and allergen avoidance within 1-2 weeks. Subsequent patch testing with the plants, nectar and synthetic ingredients identified ellagic acid (EA) as the sensitizing agent. This is the first proven case of allergic contac...

Systemic Contact Dermatitis to Peanut Ingestion
Delayed cutaneous hypersensitivity with ingestion of allergen (a form of systemic contact dermatitis) involves a non-cutaneous exposure to an allergen that has already been sensitized through the cutaneous route.1 The exact mechanism for systemic contact dermatitis remains unclear, but is believed to be mediated by type IV hypersensitivity involving T-cell activation to a hapten. 1 Ingestion of Balsam of Peru and nickel are most frequently implicated in systemic contact dermatitis, with Balsam of Peru commonly found in citrus fruits, tomatoes, and spices, and nickel commonly found in grains, chocolate, and canned foods.

Reflectance confocal microscopy of allergic contact dermatitis to mango sap (mangifera indica)
The mango fruit is a rare cause of allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) with less than forty instances reported since the first published case in 1939. Reflectance confocal microscopy (RCM) is a non-invasive imaging technique that enables dynamic, high-resolution assessment of ACD in vivo.

Contact Allergy Induced by Mango ( < em > Mangifera indica < /em > ): A Relevant Topic?
CONCLUSION: Mango fruit is frequently consumed, but mango induced contact dermatitis, the main hypersensitivity reaction induced by mango, is rare. Further data is necessary for a better understanding of sensitising substances and, consecutively, standardization of patch test reagents.PMID:34833457 | PMC:PMC8621529 | DOI:10.3390/medicina57111240
