Gender differences in cardiovascular risk, treatment, and outcomes: a post hoc analysis from the REWIND trial
Conclusions. In REWIND, most women met clinically relevant treatment targets, but in lower proportions than men. Women had a lower risk for all cardiovascular outcomes except stroke. Clinical trials.gov registration number: NCT01394952.PMID:36723445 | DOI:10.1080/14017431.2023.2166101

Dynamic changes of carotid atherosclerosis and their relations with stroke recurrence in patients with stroke or transient ischemic attack
CONCLUSION: Plaque progression occurred in 46% of stroke or TIA patients. Plaque progression was significantly associated with clinical stroke recurrence. Plaque regressed in 6.5% of patients. Patients with regression were younger than those without.PMID:35996235 | DOI:10.2174/1567202619666220822141804

Extracranial Carotid Plaque Hemorrhage Is Independently Associated With Poor 3-month Functional Outcome After Acute Ischemic Stroke-A Prospective Cohort Study
Conclusions: Extracranial carotid IPH is significantly associated with poor 3-month outcome after acute ischemic stroke and can predict the poor 3-month functional prognosis.PMID:34970212 | PMC:PMC8712340 | DOI:10.3389/fneur.2021.780436

Imaging High-Risk Atherothrombosis Using a Novel Fibrin-Binding Positron Emission Tomography Probe
CONCLUSIONS: We demonstrated that molecular fibrin PET imaging using 68Ga-CM246 could be a useful tool to diagnose experimental and clinical atherothrombosis. Based on our initial results using human carotid plaque specimens, in vivo molecular imaging studies are warranted to test 68Ga-CM246 PET as a tool to stratify risk in atherosclerotic patients.PMID:34965737 | DOI:10.1161/STROKEAHA.121.035638

Thrombus Structural Composition in Cardiovascular Disease
Arterioscler Thromb Vasc Biol. 2021 Jul 15:ATVBAHA120315754. doi: 10.1161/ATVBAHA.120.315754. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThrombosis is a major complication of cardiovascular disease, leading to myocardial infarction, acute ischemic stroke (AIS), or venous thromboembolism. Thrombosis occurs when a thrombus forms inside blood vessels disrupting blood flow. Developments in thrombectomy to remove thrombi from vessels have provided new opportunities to study thrombus composition which may help to understand mechanisms of disease and underpin improvements in treatments. We aimed to review thrombus compositions, roles of compo...

Cardiovascular/stroke risk prevention: A new machine learning framework integrating carotid ultrasound image-based phenotypes and its harmonics with conventional risk factors.
CONCLUSION: The AtheroRisk-integrated ML system outperforms the AtheroRisk-conventional ML system using RF classifier. PMID: 32861380 [PubMed - in process]

Poor Long-term Outcomes after Carotid Endarterectomy: A Retrospective Analysis of Two Portuguese Centers.
CONCLUSIONS: Patients continue to have high rates of AMI, MACE and death after CEA. Prior CAD is a risk factor for future AMI, whereas CKD is a significant predictor of MACE and death. Aggressive best medical treatment (BMT) and risk factors modification should be advised in patients with systemic atherosclerosis. PMID: 31251084 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
