In Chronic Spontaneous Urticaria, Complete Response to Antihistamine Treatment Is Linked to Low Disease Activity
In this study, we aimed to identify predictors of complete response to standard-dosed and higher than standard-dosed antihistamine treatments in patients with CSU.Methods: Medical records of 475 CSU patients, 120 of them #x3c;18 years old, from 3 different centers were analyzed. We used 15 machine learning (ML) models as well as traditional statistical methods to predict complete response to standard-dosed and higher than standard-dosed antihistamine treatment based on 17 clinical parameters. Results: CSU disease activity, which was assessed by urticaria activity score (UAS), was the only clinical parameter that predicted c...

De-labeling Beta-lactam in Adult Population
AbstractPurpose of reviewThis review summarizes the various strategies used to de-label adults who are considered to be allergic to beta-lactams and focuses on areas for improvement.Recent findingsStrategies for de-labeling penicillin allergy are based on the direct challenge, the classical drug allergy work-up, and stratification of a risk of allergic reaction after exposure to beta-lactams. Strategies based on direct ingestion of aminopenicillin without previous skin tests are safe in low-risk patients. The classical allergy work-up with skin tests and drug provocation has been used for cases where immediate reaction (ur...

New Advances in the Study of IgE Drug Recognition.
Abstract Allergic drug reactions are currently a major public health problem affecting patient health and increasing healthcare costs. They are caused by interactions between a drug and the human immune system and result in symptoms ranging from urticaria or angioedema to those more serious such as anaphylaxis or anaphylactic shock. The most commonly accepted mechanism for immunological activation is based on the hapten hypothesis. Drugs are low molecular weight substances that cannot cause an immune response on their own. However, they can act as haptens and form covalent adducts with proteins. The resulting hapt...
