Trends and hotspots of acupuncture for allergic rhinitis: A bibliometric analysis from 2002 to 2022
CONCLUSION: acupuncture has experienced robust development for the treatment of allergic rhinitis over the last two decades, with rhinoconjunctivitis and clinical research being the anticipated trends and frontiers of future research.PMID:37696311 | DOI:10.1016/j.ctim.2023.102984

The long-term effectiveness of allergy immunotherapy in subjects with asthma is associated with a lower prevalence of sleep disturbances. Results from the REACT-study
Respiratory allergy often affects the upper and lower airways as allergic rhinitis (AR) and asthma, with a negative impact on sleep. Allergy immunotherapy (AIT), particularly for house dust mite (HDM) allergy, has proven to be an effective treatment in asthma, but long-term data for AIT in asthma and sleep are sparse. The real-world effectiveness of AIT (REACT)-study was a large, retrospective German cohort study (2007-2017) with up to 9 years of follow-up. AIT was associated with long-term improved asthma control, reduced risk of asthma exacerbations and hospitalisations in patients with AR and pre-existing asthma (Fritzs...

Viral co-detection in severe bronchiolitis and lung function, allergic sensitization and asthma prevalence in school-aged children
Conclusions: The prevalence of asthma at 7-9 years after bronchiolitis was significantly higher in single-HRV or viral coinfection patients that in single-RSV ones. Single-HRV-bronchiolitis was independently associated with lower lung function at school-age.

The Editors ’ Choice
Growing up on a farm is associated with a reduced prevalence of respiratory allergies in childhood. Whether this protective effect remains into adulthood is unknown. In this issue, Strieker et  al (p 1209) aimed to prospectively investigate the relationship between farm exposure and prevalence of allergic rhinitis and wheeze from childhood to early adulthood. The authors invited participants from phase 2 of the GABRIEL Study who were living in southern Germany (aged 6-11 years at baselin e and 20-25 years at follow-up) to complete a questionnaire on sociodemographic characteristics, farm contact, respiratory symptoms, and...

High quality purification of German cockroach vitellin/vitellogenin from whole body acetone defatted powder
German cockroach (Blattella germanica; GCr) is a source of indoor aeroallergens associated with allergic rhinitis and asthma. Vitellin/vitellogenin, a high molecular mass and abundant protein in GCr eggs and egg cases, has been identified as a possible allergen serologically. To better study its allergenic properties we purified vitellin/vitellogenin from whole body defatted GCr powder, a readily available source material.

Poststratification as a suitable approach to generalize findings of two cross-sectional studies along the Bavarian compulsory school entrance examination: An exemplary poststratified analysis for asthma, hay fever and wheezing
CONCLUSIONS: It might be suggested that a poststratification should be performed for each GME survey. Poststratification tended to make results more comparable with previous research. In accordance with previous research, this study confirmed that male sex and high BMI are associated with asthma.PMID:33740566 | DOI:10.1016/j.ijheh.2021.113718
