Vascular adhesion protein-1 (VAP-1) in vascular inflammatory diseases
Vasa. 2022 Oct 6. doi: 10.1024/0301-1526/a001031. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACT Vascular adhesion protein-1 (VAP-1) also known as amino oxidase copper containing 3 (AOC3) is a pro-inflammatory and versatile molecule with adhesive and enzymatic properties. VAP-1 is a primary amine oxidase belonging to the semicarbazide-sensitive amine oxidase (SSAO) family, which catalyzes the oxidation of primary amines leading to the production of ammonium, formaldehyde, methylglyoxal, and hydrogen peroxide. VAP-1 is mainly expressed by endothelial cells, smooth muscle cells, adipocytes and pericytes. It is involved in a repertoire of bi...

Analysis of anorectal manometry data in central and peripheral neurological deseases: Review of the literature
CONCLUSION: This review did not identify a data pattern of ARM in central and peripheral neurological deseases. Gradual standardization of techniques and protocols will allow better comparison of data.PMID:36030152 | DOI:10.1016/j.purol.2022.08.008

Laparoscopically-confirmed endometriosis and risk of incident stroke: a prospective cohort study
Prior research has suggested that women with endometriosis are at greater risk of cardiovascular disease later in life, including myocardial infarction and hypertension. However, there has been limited research on endometriosis and risk of stroke, which may have similar underlying pathophysiologic mechanisms. Therefore, our objective was to prospectively investigate the association between laparoscopically-confirmed endometriosis and risk of incident stroke during 28 years of follow-up.

DROSHA rs10719 and DICER1 rs3742330 polymorphisms in endometriosis and different diseases: Case-control and review studies.
CONCLUSIONS: The results suggest that only the DICER1 rs3742330 A > G polymorphism may be associated with susceptibility to endometriosis. The frequencies of both polymorphisms were significantly different among populations, and there were discrepancies in the risk associations with the development of diseases. Finding the everyday miracles in life
Last week I was writing about what it takes for a miracle to happen and one of my commentators, the lovely Patsy Collins who joined me on the podcast not that long ago, pointed out that there are all sorts of miracles that happen, including some everyday miracles we never know about, because they happen behind the scenes. And it got me thinking about the all the little miracles that have happened in my life over the years. And, once I got thinking, I got into musing about what life would be like if they hadn’t happened. And, as it’s been a week of ups and downs on the exam front I thought I might as well start ...
