Validity and reliability of the fatigue impact scale in stroke
CONCLUSION: FIS is a valid and reliable multidimensional scale that sensitively discriminated fatigue in the stroke patients from that in the control subjects.PMID:34542023 | DOI:10.1080/10749357.2021.1978629

Disruption of Sonic Hedgehog Signaling Accelerates Age-Related Neurogenesis Decline and Abolishes Stroke-Induced Neurogenesis and Leads to Increased Anxiety Behavior in Stroke Mice
In this study, using conditional knockout (cKO) of SHH signaling receptorSmo gene in NSCs, we show a decreased neurogenesis at both SVZ and SGZ in young-adult mice and an accelerated depletion of neurogenic cells in the process of aging suggesting that SHH signaling is critical in maintaining neurogenesis during aging. Behavior studies revealed that compromised neurogenesis inSmo cKO mice leads to increased anxiety/depression-like behaviors without affecting general locomotor function or spatial and fear-related learning. Importantly, we also show that NSCs with a  cKO of SHH signaling abolishes stroke-induced neurogenesi...

Poststroke anxiety is prevalent at the population level, especially among socially deprived and younger age community stroke survivors
ConclusionUsing a conservative HADS‐A cutoff, a high prevalence of definite abnormal anxiety in community stroke survivors is observed. This prevalence increases markedly in younger and more socially deprived stroke survivors.

Secondary Prevention and Health Promotion after Stroke: Can It Be Enhanced?
The aim was to study if health outcome and secondary prevention were satisfactory 1 year after stroke and if nurse-led interventions 3 months after stroke could have impact. Design was a randomized controlled open trial in a 1-year population. Primary outcome was health status 1 year after stroke. One month after stroke, survivors were randomized into intervention group (IG) with follow-up by a specialist nurse (SN) after 3 months (n = 232), and control group (CG) with standard care (n = 227), all to be followed up 1 year after stroke. At the first follow-up, patients graded their health, replied to the EuroQol-5 ...

Improving Adherence to Secondary Stroke Prevention Strategies Through Motivational Interviewing: Randomized Controlled Trial Clinical Sciences
Conclusions— MI improved self-reported medication adherence. All other effects were nonsignificant, though in the direction of a treatment effect. Further study is required to determine whether MI leads to improvement in other important areas of functioning (eg, caregiver burden). Clinical Trial Registration— URL: http://www.anzctr.org.au.
