The Safety of Continuing Low-dose Aspirin Therapy Perioperatively in the Patients had Undergone Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis
CONCLUSION: Based on our findings, transient cessation of aspirin perioperatively seems not to be necessary for patients who need PCNL complicated with the necessity of aspirin therapy. Analyzing the impact of systems-based hematologist in the healthcare system at an academic medical center
We described our 6-year experience as SBH at a 750-bed tertiary academic medical center to improve clinical outcomes while reducing costs. Via four different initiatives, we were able to provide high-value, cost-conscious care as SBH by reducing cost of heparin-induced thrombocytopenia management, optimizing blood product utilization using goal-directed algorithms, reducing inappropriate thrombophilia testing and improving inferior vena cava filter retrieval rates. To ensure continuing success as a SBH, business plans need to include education, enforcement, monitoring, feedback, validation of safety and outcomes and a shar...

Endovascular therapy versus medical treatment for spontaneous isolated dissection of the superior mesenteric artery
CONCLUSIONS: We were not able to include any RCTs that compared endovascular therapy versus medical treatment in people with SIDSMA. High-quality RCTs that evaluate the benefits and harms of these interventions are needed to help determine the optimal strategy for managing SIDSMA.PMID:36074662 | PMC:PMC9455746 | DOI:10.1002/14651858.CD014703.pub2

Big breakfast 'boosts fertility' for some women
Conclusion This study has shown that in slim women with PCOS, eating most of the daily calories at breakfast can reduce levels of insulin by 8% and testosterone by 50% with no weight change. In this study, this led to half of the women in the breakfast group ovulating at least once, compared to a fifth of the "dinner group", which suggests improved fertility. Although these results are encouraging, there are some limitations to the study, including: Ovulation was only recorded over a three-month timespan, and it is not clear how often any of the women were ovulating in the previous year. This study was reli...

Under-80 cancer deaths 'eliminated by 2050' claim
Conclusion Most of the recommendations in this paper are already part of cancer prevention strategy and best practice guidelines. The advice that all people over 50 should take aspirin is controversial. While there is some evidence of a protective effect, as we discussed last year, this has to be balanced against side effects such as peptic ulcers and bleeding from the stomach, particularly in older people. It's important to see your GP before deciding to take aspirin regularly. This review could be considered to be over-optimistic. Recommendations regarding cancer prevention remain unchanged. Analysis by Bazian. Edite...

Novel Direct-Acting Anticoagulants for Risk Reduction in ACS
Acute coronary syndrome (ACS) is a devastating adverse cardiovascular event with a massive burden on patient morbility and mortality, as well as the economy. Approximately 1.2 million people are hospitalized annually for ACS in the United States, with direct medical costs estimated at $150 billion in 2009.
