Associations of Anemia With Outcomes in Patients With Spontaneous Intracerebral Hemorrhage: A Meta-Analysis
Conclusions: Anemia on admission was associated with higher mortality and an increased risk of poor outcome in patients with ICH. However, the results were limited by the high heterogeneity of included studies. Prospective, multi-center or population-based, large sample cohort studies are needed in the future. Introduction Intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) is the second most common cause of stroke and a highly lethal disease (1), which still lacks effective therapeutic interventions (2, 3). Although age, baseline ICH volume and neurological status on admission are well-known predictors of outcome of ICH (4), none of t...

Prospective Evaluation Of Chronic Organ Damage In Adult Sickle Cell Patients. A Seven ‐Year Follow‐Up Study
In conclusion, 62% of the sickle cell patients in this prospective cohort study developed a new SCD‐related complication in a comprehensive care setting within 7 years of follow‐up. Although the hospital admission rate for VOC remained stable, multiple forms of organ damage increased substantially. These observations underline the need for continued screening for organ damage in all adult patients with SCD. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.

Anemia in Heart Failure
Publication date: Available online 8 November 2017 Source:JACC: Heart Failure Author(s): Niels Grote Beverborg, Dirk J. van Veldhuisen, Peter van der Meer One-third of all patients with heart failure have anemia, and its presence is associated with more symptoms, increased rates of hospitalization, and mortality. The etiology of anemia is multifactorial, complex, and varies between patients. The most important factors leading to anemia in heart failure are inadequate erythropoietin production resulting from renal failure, intrinsic bone marrow defects, medication use, and nutritional deficiencies such as iron deficiency. ...

Home Based Primary Care for Patients with Sickle Cell Disease
Conclusion: Overall, home based primary care seems to be a promising alternative for pts with SCD. It had a significant impact on patient quality of care and may improve prescription adherence, but more data are needed to determine if it has an effect on healthcare utilization for pts with SCD.DisclosuresMoore: Ohio State University College of Medicine: Research Funding.
