Chromium picolinate supplementation improves cardiac performance in hypoxic rats
CONCLUSION: Chromium supplementation confers protection against hypoxia-induced cardiovascular dysfunction by improvement of the antioxidant capacity.PMID:36044000 | DOI:10.1080/00015385.2022.2041782

Safety of Contemporary Carotid Artery Stenting and Associated Risk Factors for Treatment of Carotid Artery Stenosis
CONCLUSION: These results suggest that preoperative risk stratification of CAS patients may not be straightforward as each adverse event has its own risk factors, precluding a generalized CAS risk stratification scoring system from being created. This paper can aid in patient selection for CAS by highlighting risk factors in modern CAS.PMID:35691520 | DOI:10.1016/j.wneu.2022.06.017

Multimorbidity, guideline ‐directed medical therapies, and associated outcomes among hospitalized heart failure patients
ConclusionsComorbidity clusters were prevalent and associated with poorer outcomes. GDMT remained beneficial regardless of the comorbidity burden but tended to weaken with increasing comorbidity burden. Further research is required to optimize medical care in these patients.

Long-term outcomes in patients after left atrial appendage occlusion. The results from the LAAO SILESIA registry
CONCLUSIONS: Based on a "real-life" cohort of patients from the Silesian Province, we concluded that LAAO is related to low in-hospital MACE. In the long-term follow up, LAAO reduced the rates of stroke and bleeding.PMID:35167113 | DOI:10.33963/KP.a2022.0047

Novel bleeding prediction model in atrial fibrillation patients on new oral anticoagulants
Conclusions We present a novel and simple risk score for prediction of major bleeding in patients with non-valvular AF treated with NOACs. Validation in additional cohorts is warranted.

The Relationship Between Atrial Fibrillation, Mitral Regurgitation, and Heart Failure Subtype: The ARIC Study
CONCLUSIONS: In patients with ADHF, AF prevalence increased with MR severity and this effect was more pronounced in HFpEF compared with HFrEF. AF was associated with an increased 1-year mortality only in patients with HFpEF and concomitant moderate/severe MR.REGISTRATION: NCT00005131, https://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT00005131.PMID:34955335 | DOI:10.1016/j.cardfail.2021.10.015

Clinical Outcomes of Acute Myocardial Infarction Hospitalizations with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus: An Analysis of Nationwide Readmissions Database
CONCLUSION: Patients with AMI and SLE had higher inpatient mortality during the index hospitalization and higher 30-day hospital readmissions compared to AMI patients without SLE. There were no significant differences in most of the other major inpatient outcomes between the two cohorts.PMID:34936910 | DOI:10.1016/j.cpcardiol.2021.101086

Association of Polycythemia with Outcomes of Acute Coronary Syndrome
Conclusions: Although younger and with fewer comorbidities, polycythemic ACS patients are at increased risk for long-term all-cause mortality. Further study of this association is warranted to understand the causes and possibly to improve the outcomes of these patients.Cardiology
