Medical malpractice in aortic valve and mitral valve replacement surgery in North America
CONCLUSIONS: In addition to excellent surgeon patient/family communication, administering surgical treatment in a timely manner, diagnosing and acting on concomitant medical conditions, and close patient monitoring may diminish medical malpractice litigation involving aortic and mitral valve replacement operations.PMID:34338496 | DOI:10.23736/S0021-9509.21.11945-7

Very early infective endocarditis after transcatheter aortic valve replacement
ConclusionA significant proportion of IE episodes following TAVR occurs within a few weeks following the procedure and are associated with dismal outcomes. Some baseline and TAVR procedural factors were associated with VE-IE, andStaphylococcus aureus and enterococci were the main causative pathogens. These results may help to select the more appropriate antibiotic prophylaxis in TAVR procedures and guide the initial antibiotic therapy in those cases with a clinical suspicion of IE.Graphical abstractVery early infective endocarditis after trans-catheter aortic valve replacement. VE-IE indicates very early infective endocard...

Long ‐term outcomes of patients undergoing mechanical versus bioprosthetic aortic root replacement
ConclusionsThese findings suggest that mechanical valves for ARRs may confer a survival benefit over bioprosthetic valves. Surgeon bias was likely to account for this survival advantage.

Ten-Year Long-Term Analysis of Mechanical and Biological Aortic Valve Replacement
Conclusion After isolated AVR with MP and BP, 10-year long-term outcomes were comparable in the reported single-center cohort. MP can still be implanted safely without a disadvantage as regards long-term survival. Original technique for tricuspid valve replacement by mitral homograft: Step ‐by‐step approach and initial results
ConclusionSatisfactory initial clinical and hemodynamic results were achieved utilizing our technique. Mid- and long-term results are required to understand the place of homografts in tricuspid valve surgery.

Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement for Aortic Valve Infective Endocarditis: A Systematic Review and Call for Action
AbstractWe aimed to systematically analyze the literature on the use of transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) to treat active aortic valve infective endocarditis (AV-IE). Surgery is declined in one-third of patients with IE who meet indications because of prohibitive surgical risk. TAVR might be an alternative for selected patients with AV-IE as a bridge-to-surgery or stand-alone therapy. PubMed/MEDLINE, Embase, and Cochrane databases were searched (2002 –2022) for studies on TAVR use in active AV-IE. Of 450 identified reports, six met inclusion criteria (all men, mean age 71 ± 12 years, median Society of T...
