Causal association between serum 25-Hydroxyvitamin D levels and cutaneous melanoma: a two-sample Mendelian randomization study
CONCLUSION: The findings indicated a potentially causal positive association between serum 25-Hydroxyvitamin D levels and melanoma risk, challenging traditional beliefs about vitamin D's role in melanoma. This emphasizes the need for a balanced and personalized approach to vitamin D supplementation and sun exposure, particularly in high-risk populations. These results should be interpreted with caution due to potential unrecognized pleiotropy and confounding factors. Future research should focus on validating these findings in diverse populations and exploring underlying biological mechanisms.PMID:37664026 | PMC:PMC1047062...

Salivary vitamin D levels among OSCC and normal Indian patients
Bioinformation. 2022 Oct 31;18(10):884-887. doi: 10.6026/97320630018884. eCollection 2022.ABSTRACTOral Squamous Cell Carcinoma comprises nearly 90% of all Oral cancers. Recent studies on Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma are done with a focus on identification of factors that affect the outcome of treatment, one of which is vitamin D levels. The aim of this study was to evaluate vitamin D3 levels in patients with Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma and Normal Population with saliva as a biomarker. The study sample comprised of 40 subjects, of whom 20 were patients diagnosed with OSCC and 20 healthy subjects. The salivary samples obtai...

Circulating vitamin D concentration and risk of 14 cancers: a bidirectional Mendelian randomization study
CONCLUSIONS: Our findings provide support for a causal relationship between circulating vitamin D concentration and risk of MSC. Additionally, we found a causal relationship between circulating vitamin D concentration and risk of colorectal cancer in reverse-MR analysis. This evidence indicate that vitamin D is of great significance in the prevention and treatment of MSC and the prognosis of colorectal cancer.PMID:37642723 | DOI:10.1007/s00432-023-05322-9

PDIA3 modulates genomic response to 1,25 < sub > - < /sub > dihydroxyvitamin D < sub > 3 < /sub > in squamous cell carcinoma of the skin
Steroids. 2023 Aug 5:109288. doi: 10.1016/j.steroids.2023.109288. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAn active form of vitamin D3 (1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3) acts through vitamin D receptor (VDR) initiating genomic response, but several studies described also non-genomic actions of 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3, implying the role of PDIA3 in the process. PDIA3 is a membrane-associated disulfide isomerase involved in disulfide bond formation, protein folding, and remodeling. Here, we used a transcriptome-based approach to identify changes in expression profiles in PDIA3-deficient squamous cell carcinoma line A431 after 1,25-dihydroxyv...

Metabolism of Lumisterol < sub > 2 < /sub > by CYP27A1
In conclusion, this study shows that L2 is not metabolized appreciably by CYP11A1, but it is a good substrate for CYP27A1 which hydroxylates its side chain to produce 3 major products that display anti-proliferative activity on skin-cancer cell lines.PMID:37499840 | DOI:10.1016/j.jsbmb.2023.106370

Roles of Nuclear Receptors in Esophageal Cancer
CONCLUSION: The studies on the roles of NRs in EC have provided a theoretical basis for us to further understand the pathogenesis of EC and develop potential therapeutic drugs targeting NRs for the treatment of different diseases.PMID:36740804 | DOI:10.2174/1389201024666230202155426
