slan+ monocytes kill cancer cells coated in therapeutic antibody by trogoptosis
Cancer Immunol Res. 2023 Sep 11. doi: 10.1158/2326-6066.CIR-23-0239. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMonocytes positive for 6-Sulfo LacNAc (slan) are a major subset of non-classical CD14dimCD16+ monocytes in humans. We have shown that slan+ cells infiltrate lymphomas and elicit an antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity (ADCC) of neoplastic B cells mediated by the anti-CD20 therapeutic Rituximab. Herein, by performing blocking experiments and flow cytometry analyses, as well as confocal microscopy and live-cell imaging assays, we extended the findings to other humanized antibodies and deciphered the underlying effector mech...

Geographic Disparity of Outcome in Patients With Cancer Over Decades: The Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results
CONCLUSIONS: Significant disparities in cancer care exist among geographic locations. Geographic differences in survival appear more prominent when highly effective therapies are available.PMID:37690903 | DOI:10.1016/j.clml.2023.08.001

Synthesis and clinical application of small-molecule inhibitors and PROTACs of anaplastic lymphoma kinase
Bioorg Chem. 2023 Aug 25;140:106807. doi: 10.1016/j.bioorg.2023.106807. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPharmacological interventions that specifically target protein products of oncogenes in tumors have surfaced as a propitious therapeutic approach. Among infrequent genetic alterations, rearrangements of the anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK) gene, typically involving a chromosome 2 inversion that culminates in a fusion with the echinoderm microtubule-associated protein like 4 (EML4), lead to anomalous expression and activation of ALK. The inhibition of autophosphorylation and subsequent blockade of signal transduction by ALK...

Plaque Rupture in a Hodgkin Lymphoma Survivor without Cardiovascular Risk Factors 20 Years after Thoracic Radiotherapy: A Case Report
DISCUSSION: In HL survivors treated with thoracic radiotherapy, a calcium score of zero may not give the same warranty period for cardiac event-free survival compared to the general population. Coronary computed tomography angiography can be a proper diagnostic tool to detect CAD at an early stage after mediastinal irradiation, as performing calcium scoring may not be sufficient in this population to detect non-calcified plaques, which may show rapid progression and lead to acute coronary syndrome. Also, intensive lipid-lowering therapy should be considered in the presence of atherosclerosis in this patient population.PMID...

Activation recovery interval as an electrocardiographic repolarization index to detect doxorubicin-induced cardiotoxicity
CONCLUSIONS: ARIc prolongation may be useful in the early detection of developing late-onset chronic DOX-induced CTRCD and lead to early treatment for cardiac protection.PMID:37506822 | DOI:10.1016/j.jjcc.2023.07.006

Experiences of and preferences for self-management among low grade non-Hodgkin's lymphoma survivors: A qualitative interview study
CONCLUSIONS: Providing self-management support to those diagnosed with low grade non-Hodgkin's lymphoma is relevant given the chronic trajectory of the disease. Findings suggest that necessary components of a self-management support programme for those with low grade non-Hodgkin's lymphoma should include regular review with monitoring and practical support around facilitating engagement with social networks.PMID:37506608 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejon.2023.102378

Treating Cancer in People With HIV
J Clin Oncol. 2023 Jun 2:JCO2300737. doi: 10.1200/JCO.23.00737. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe Oncology Grand Rounds series is designed to place original reports published in the Journal into clinical context. A case presentation is followed by a description of diagnostic and management challenges, a review of the relevant literature, and a summary of the authors' suggested management approaches. The goal of this series is to help readers better understand how to apply the results of key studies, including those published in Journal of Clinical Oncology, to patients seen in their own clinical practice.People with HIV (P...
