Urethral caruncle: a lesion related to IgG4-associated sclerosing disease?
Conclusions Urethral caruncle is a benign inflammatory and fibrous polypoid urethral mass of unclear aetiology. It appears unrelated to viral infection and lacks the abnormal expression of anaplastic lymphoma kinase protein, as seen in inflammatory myofibroblastic tumours. Increased numbers of IgG4-positive plasma cells in a subset of lesions raise the possibility that some cases may be related to the autoimmune phenomena of IgG4-associated disease.

Frequent expression of follicular dendritic cell markers in Hodgkin lymphoma and anaplastic large cell lymphoma
Conclusions This study confirmed the frequent expression of FDC markers in HL and ALCL. Especially, GLI3, fascin and TUBB3 are the most sensitive markers. Further studies are required to evaluate the association between FDCs, HRSs and ALCL cells.

A homozygous mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue 1 (MALT1) mutation in a family with combined immunodeficiency
Conclusions: An autosomal recessive form of CID is associated with homozygous mutations in MALT1. If future patients are found to be similarly affected, they should be considered as candidates for allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation.

p63 And p53 expression in extranodal NK/T cell lymphoma, nasal type
Objectives To investigate the pathological and clinical meaning of p63 in extranodal nasal type NK/T cell lymphoma (NKTCL). Methods We detected p63 and p53 expression using immunohistochemistry staining in 84 cases of NKTCL from Southern of China, an area with a well known high incidence of nasopharyngeal carcinoma, which is closely associated with Epstein–Barr virus infection. Moreover, we analysed the relationship between p63 and p53 expression and the clinicopathological features of NKTCL. Results Our results first showed that p63 expression was found in 14.3% (12/84) of NKTCL compared with 6.6% (2/30) in reacti...

Aberrant anaplastic lymphoma kinase expression in high-grade pulmonary neuroendocrine carcinoma
Conclusions Thus, this aberrant expression is probably of a wild-type ALK and a potential pitfall when implementing sensitive ALK immunohistochemistry in the molecular diagnosis of lung cancer.

Molecular determinations of EGFR and EML4-ALK on a single slide of NSCLC tissue
Conclusions EGFR mutation analysis can be performed on the same sample previously submitted to the EML4-ALK FISH procedure.

PLK1 and YY1 interaction in follicular lymphoma is associated with unfavourable outcome
Conclusions The results confirm association of YY1 and PLK1 with outcome in FL and suggest coexpression at the centrosome. Given the reported interaction of YY1 with PLK1 at the centriole and promotion of cell division at the G2/M checkpoint, the results would concord with the known association of higher proliferation with poor outcome in FL.

Preventing breastfeeding-associated hypernatraemia: an argument for supplemental feeding
The benefits of breastfeeding are unquestionable. Breast milk provides the ideal nourishment for infant growth and development. In addition, it has numerous health benefits for both infant and mother. Breastfeeding decreases the incidence of acute infections such as otitis media, respiratory tract infections and gastroenteritis; chronic diseases such as type 1 diabetes, asthma and inflammatory bowel disease, and childhood leukaemia and lymphoma; and sudden infant death syndrome. In addition, it improves neurodevelopmental outcomes for the infant. Breastfeeding benefits the mother by improving infant-maternal bonding, facil...

T-cell receptor ligation causes Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome protein degradation and F-actin assembly downregulation
Conclusion: TCR ligation causes WASP to be degraded by calpain and to be ubiquitinated by Cbl family E3 ligases, which targets it for destruction by the proteasome. WASP degradation might provide a mechanism for regulating WASP-dependent TCR-driven assembly of F-actin.

Molecular genetic testing for lung adenocarcinomas: a practical approach to clinically relevant mutations and translocations
There is a consensus that molecular testing of the lung carcinoma should be the standard of care in the clinical management of patients with lung carcinoma. Recent practice guidelines in oncology and pathology recommend that all advanced and metastatic non-small-cell lung carcinoma with adenocarcinoma histology undergo biomarker testing for epidermal growth factor receptor gene (EGFR) mutations and anaplastic lymphoma kinase gene (ALK) rearrangements. Other types of non-small-cell carcinoma may be considered for such testing if they occur in never-smokers. The landscape of targetable biomarkers in non-small-cell carcinoma ...

Centerovirus encephalitis complicating rituximab treatment: a treatable condition
Conclusion As rituximab is increasingly used, neurologists are likely to encounter more patients with this rare complication and should be aware that it may develop. In addition it has a unique treatment (intravenous immunoglobulin) that can result in dramatic recovery.

Think outside the box, collapse the box, and take a sharp knife to it!
A 74 year–old woman presented in December 2011 with left sided cerebellar symptoms. She was initially diagnosed as having a posterior circulation infarction and discharged from hospital on appropriate medication. However, over the following month she continued to deteriorate, developing increasing unsteadiness, falls, nausea and vomiting. Following a second admission in January 2012 she had a single seizure and developed focal left sided myoclonus affecting mainly the upper limb. Over the following month the myoclonus spread to affect all four limbs, although it remained more prominent on the left side. There was evi...

Primary cns lymphoma masquerading as tumefactive demyelination
A 47 year old female presented with sub–acute cognitive decline and personality change, without any significant focal neurology. An MRI scan showed extensive white matter signal change and oedema with a few enhancing focal lesions and minimal mass effect. The radiological differential diagnosis consisted of primary CNS tumour/Lymphoma, Demyelination and CNS vasculitis. Oligoclonal bands were only detected in CSF, but numerous other investigations turned out to be unhelpful. An image guided, burr–hole brain biopsy of the most prominent and enhancing left frontal lesion, showed non–specific reactive changes...

Primary central nervous system lymphoma interacting with a pre-existing cerebral amyloid angiopathy demonstrated as an old right frontal haemorrhage on imaging
We present a case that has not been reported in previous literature of an 82 year old man first seen in clinic with probable transient ischemic attacks secondary to a heavily calcified right ICA in October 2012. Magnetic Resonance demonstrated a sizeable area of old hemorrhage in the right frontal lobe, and he discharged with clopidogrel. However he represented In December 2012 on three occasions over the course of a week with similar symptoms of left arm weakness and facial droop. Repeat MRI illustrated no new infarcts but a further hemorrhage in the right frontal region just caudal to the previous hemorrhage which has re...
