Association Between Number of Preventive Care Guidelines and Preventive Care Utilization by Patients
ConclusionsThe rate of preventive care utilization was lower when the number of guideline-recommended services was higher. Prioritizing recommendations might improve utilization of high-value services.

Practice Transformation Under the University of Colorado's Primary Care Redesign Model.
CONCLUSIONS: The PCR model is associated with simultaneous improvements in quality, access, and clinician experience, as well as reductions in burnout, while maintaining staffing costs. PMID: 31405873 [PubMed - in process]

High Feasibility and Safety, but Negligible Efficacy of Acupressure for Treating Nausea in Cancer Patients Admitted to the Palliative Care Unit: A Pilot Study
Tohoku J Exp Med. 2021;254(3):155-161. doi: 10.1620/tjem.254.155.ABSTRACTManagement of nausea is an important dimension of palliative care. The first choice for treating nausea is antiemetics, but their efficacy is inadequate. Acupressure intervention for nausea in cancer patients has been studied as a non-pharmacological therapy, and appears to have had some effect. However, such a therapy has not been well reviewed in patients with terminal cancer. The purpose of this study was to clarify the feasibility of acupressure intervention and examine its safety and preliminary efficacy. We recruited cancer patients that fulfill...

Drug Repurposing and Systems Biology approaches of Enzastaurin can target potential biomarkers and critical pathways in Colorectal Cancer
Comput Biol Med. 2023 Feb 7;155:106630. doi: 10.1016/j.compbiomed.2023.106630. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTColorectal cancer (CRC) is a severe health concern that results from a cocktail of genetic, epigenetic, and environmental abnormalities. Because it is the second most lethal malignancy in the world and the third-most common malignant tumor, but the treatment is unavailable. The goal of the current study was to use bioinformatics and systems biology techniques to determine the pharmacological mechanism underlying putative important genes and linked pathways in early-onset CRC. Computer-aided methods were used to unco...

Telephone Outreach to Increase Colon Cancer Screening in Medicaid Managed Care Organizations: A Randomized Controlled Trial.
CONCLUSIONS The telephone outreach intervention delivered by MMCO staff increased CRC screening by 6% more than usual care among randomized women, and by 15.1% more than usual care among previously overdue women reached by the intervention. Our research-based intervention was successfully translated to the health plan arena, with variable effects in the participating MMCOs. PMID: 23835819 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Physician roles in the cancer-related follow-up care of cancer survivors.
CONCLUSIONS: PCPs and oncologists differ in their involvement in cancer-related follow-up care of survivors, with co-management more often reported by PCPs than by oncologists. Given anticipated national shortages of PCPs and oncologists, study results suggest that improved communication and coordination between these providers is needed to ensure optimal delivery of follow-up care to cancer survivors. DPC in Acute-phase Inpatient Hospital Care. Visualization of Amount of Nursing Care Provided and Accessibility to Nursing Care.
Conclusions: The findings show that the method for the visualization of the amount of nursing care based on the classification of patient characteristics can be implemented into the electronic health record system. This method can then be used as a management tool to assure appropriate distribution of nursing resources. PMID: 24072039 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Primary Care Utilization and Colorectal Cancer Incidence and Mortality Among Medicare Beneficiaries: A Population-Based, Case-Control Study.
CONCLUSION: Medicare beneficiaries with higher utilization of primary care have lower CRC incidence and mortality and lower overall mortality. Increasing and promoting access to primary care in the United States for Medicare beneficiaries may help decrease the national burden of CRC. PRIMARY FUNDING SOURCE: American Cancer Society.
