Comparative Analysis of First-Line FOLFOX Treatment With and Without Anti-VEGF Therapy in Metastatic Colorectal Carcinoma: A Real-World Data Study
CONCLUSION: Our real-world data analysis suggests that the addition of anti-VEGF to FOLFOX offers limited and short-lived benefits in the context of mCRC and may provide differential survival benefit based on tumor sidedness.PMID:37724508 | DOI:10.1177/10732748231202470

Socioeconomic determinants of racial disparities in survival outcomes among patients with renal cell carcinoma
CONCLUSIONS: Black patients with RCC demonstrate worse survival outcomes compared to White patients across all stages. Socioeconomic disparities between races play a significant role in influencing survival in RCC.PMID:37709565 | DOI:10.1016/j.urolonc.2023.08.016

Improving diverse participation in cancer clinical trials
Trans Am Clin Climatol Assoc. 2023;133:149-156.ABSTRACTDespite significant improvement in overall cancer mortality (>30% since 1991), these survival benefits have not been experienced by all groups uniformly especially in those of diverse heritage. Drivers of cancer health inequity are multi-factorial including more adverse social determinants of health, later stage cancer presentation, decreased health care access, decreased health literacy, and cultural barriers to prompt cancer care. Adding to these disparities is the historical inclusion of primarily well-insured Caucasian patients into cancer clinical trials leadin...

Self-reported barriers to screening breast MRI among women at high risk for breast cancer
CONCLUSIONS: High-risk women reported low uptake of screening breast MRI, indicating a gap in guideline-concordant care. Breast cancer knowledge and screening-supportive social norms are two key areas to target in future interventions. Data were collected during the COVID-19 pandemic and generalizability of results is unclear. Future studies with larger, more heterogeneous samples are needed to replicate these findings.PMID:37640965 | DOI:10.1007/s10549-023-07085-w

Effect of lifestyle modification on hepatocellular carcinoma incidence and mortality among patients with chronic hepatitis B
CONCLUSION: LSM lowered the risk of HCC and mortality in patients with CHB. Thus, active LSM, particularly alcohol abstinence and smoking cessation, should be encouraged in patients with CHB.PMID:37426323 | PMC:PMC10324530 | DOI:10.3748/wjg.v29.i24.3843
