Clinical and Economic Outcomes in Patients With Metastatic Urothelial Carcinoma Receiving First-Line Systemic Treatment (the IMPACT UC I Study)
CONCLUSION: 1L platinum-containing chemotherapy resulted in the longest median OS and highest HCRU, whereas 1L ICI treatment had the shortest median OS and the highest costs. Over 50% of patients diagnosed with advanced UC (aUC) received no systemic therapy, highlighting the importance of optimal 1L treatment decisions in aUC.PMID:37432283 | DOI:10.1093/oncolo/oyad174

Real-world analysis of cost, treatment patterns, and outcomes of patients with metastatic cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma in the US
CONCLUSION: During 2014-2018, patients with mCSCC were commonly treated with cisplatin and cetuximab; prognosis was generally poor. These results indicate opportunity for new treatments to improve survival outcomes.PMID:37313647 | DOI:10.1080/14737167.2023.2223982

Electrochemotherapy as an Effective Alternative in the Treatment of Local Advanced Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma: A Retrospective Analysis of Treated Cases
This study aims to assess the debulking effect of cancer via ECT in patients with advanced oral squamous cell carcinoma. It also aims to assess the safety and tolerability of this treatment.PMID:36982078 | DOI:10.3390/ijerph20065170

Trends in keratinocyte skin cancer incidence, mortality and burden of disease in 33 countries between 1990 and 2017
CONCLUSIONS: Over the past 27 years, although trends in SCC incidence have risen in most countries, there is evidence that mortality rates have been decreasing. Burden of disease as assessed using DALYs has decreased in the majority of countries. Future work will explore potential explanatory factors for the observed disparity in trends in SCC incidence and mortality.PMID:36763862 | DOI:10.1093/bjd/ljac064

A Comparative Trial of Improving Care for Underserved Asian Americans Infected with Hepatitis B Virus
CONCLUSIONS: Culturally and linguistically appropriate intervention has strong effects on adherence to follow-up care among Asian American hepatitis B patients experiencing challenges to medication adherence and follow up care. These findings further identify opportunities for practical implementation of evidence-based intervention that could lead to reductions in disparities in chronic liver disease and liver cancer among high-risk, underserved populations.PMID:36749506 | DOI:10.1007/s10620-023-07840-5

Clinical utility of routine postoperative serial hemoglobin measurements in patients undergoing radical cystectomy for urothelial carcinoma
CONCLUSIONS: Transfusion of PRBCs beyond POD2 was found to be common; however, patients with sHgb ≥100 g/L on POD 2 were at low risk of requiring subsequent transfusion. Discontinuing further routine sHgb checks in these patients may serve to decrease patient anxiety, healthcare costs, and delays in hospital discharge.PMID:36218314 | DOI:10.5489/cuaj.8012

What Proportion of Patients With Musculoskeletal Sarcomas Demostrate Symptoms of Depression or Anxiety?
CONCLUSION: When treating patients with sarcoma, consideration should be given to potential concomitant psychiatric symptoms. Screening, especially at the highest-risk timepoints such as at the initial diagnosis and the time of recurrence, should be considered. Further work should be done to determine the effect of early psychiatric referral on patient-related outcomes and healthcare costs.LEVEL OF EVIDENCE: Level III, therapeutic study.PMID:35901433 | DOI:10.1097/CORR.0000000000002295
