Predicted cardiac and second cancer risks for patients undergoing VMAT for mediastinal Hodgkin lymphoma
CONCLUSION: For patients with mediastinal lymphoma excess mortality risks from CVD and second cancers remain clinically significant despite contemporary chemotherapy and photon-RT. Efforts to reduce the toxicity of combined modality treatment, for example, using DIBH, reduced margins and advanced RT, e.g. proton beam therapy, should be continued to further reduce potentially fatal treatment effects.PMID:36585562 | DOI:10.1007/s12094-022-03034-z

A view of care pathways approved by Italian Regions, to face the challenge of the community-based healthcare: a quali-quantitative analysis of the Pdta Net database.
CONCLUSIONS: The high number of CPs approved in Italy confirms an increasing interest of the healthcare institutions. The collected CPs show an extreme variety of titles, text structures and disease choices. Given the absence of an institutional observatory and of devotees of shared and harmonized CPs, annually Pdta Net makes available an updated and complete overview of these governance tools, which are essential for the upcoming changes of the Italian national health service.PMID:36573531 | DOI:10.1701/3939.39228

Identification of ligustrazine-based analogs of piperlongumine as potential anti-ischemic stroke agents
Fitoterapia. 2022 Dec 20:105398. doi: 10.1016/j.fitote.2022.105398. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPiper longum has a specific aroma and spicy taste. In addition to edible value, current studies have shown that piper longum also has pharmacological activities such as anti-platelet aggregation, anti-inflammation, anti-cancer, anti-diabetes and anti-depression. Piperlongumine is an alkaloid isolated from Piper longum. Based on our previous studies, four Piperlongumine analogs were synthesized, and their anti-platelet aggregation activities were evaluated. Among them, compound 8 has the strongest anti-platelet aggregation acti...

Estimation of the effects PM2.5, NO2, O3 pollutants on the health of Shahrekord residents based on AirQ < sup > + < /sup > software during (2012-2018)
CONCLUSION: A significant number of deaths due to air pollutants in Shahrekord have been reported. It can be concluded that by designing and implementing strategies and measures to control air pollution, both health effects and economic losses are prevented.PMID:36561960 | PMC:PMC9764246 | DOI:10.1016/j.toxrep.2022.03.045

Inorganic nitrate supplementation may improve diastolic function and the O2 cost of exercise in cancer survivors: a pilot study
AbstractIn non-cancer populations, inorganic dietary nitrate (NO3−) supplementation is associated with enhanced cardiorespiratory function but remains untested in patients with a history of cancer. Therefore, this pilot study sought to determine if oral NO3− supplementation, as a supportive care strategy, increases left ventricular (LV) function and exercise performance in survivors of cancer treated with anticancer therapy while simultaneously evaluating the feasibility of the methods and procedures required for future large-scale randomized trials. Two cohorts of patients with a history of cancer treated with antican...

Comparative Effectiveness and Safety of Direct Oral Anticoagulants Versus Warfarin Among Adults With Cancer and Atrial Fibrillation
CONCLUSIONS: Older adults with cancer and atrial fibrillation exposed to DOACs had similar risks of stroke and systemic embolism and major bleeding as those exposed to warfarin. Relative to warfarin, DOAC use was associated with a similar risk of cardiovascular death and a lower risk of all-cause death.PMID:36453260 | DOI:10.1161/CIRCOUTCOMES.122.008951

Active screening for lung cancer increases smoking abstinence in Australia
CONCLUSIONS: This study provides the first data on smoking cessation rates in Australian lung cancer screenees and supports screening as a teachable moment. We identify several factors that identify smokers who may require more intensive smoking cessation interventions and could be used to develop effective smoking cessation as part of lung cancer screening, tailored to individual risk profiles.PMID:36437500 | DOI:10.1111/ajco.13879

Risk of mortality and other adverse outcomes from myocardial infarction in cancer survivors: a meta-analysis
ConclusionThis meta-analysis shows that cancer increases the risk of all-cause mortality, recurrent MI, and major bleeding in MI patients but is not associated with the risk of cardiovascular death. Therefore, comprehensive multidisciplinary management and monitoring of potential future adverse events in MI patients with cancer are needed.Systematic review registrationThe meta-analysis was registered in the International Register of Prospective Systematic Reviews (NO. CRD42022332775).

Poorly Differentiated Lung Cancer with Intracardiac Extension Causing Malignant Stroke in a Peritoneal Dialysis Patient: a Case Report
SN Compr Clin Med. 2022;4(1):255. doi: 10.1007/s42399-022-01331-w. Epub 2022 Nov 14.ABSTRACTCardiac involvement occurs in an almost one quarter of all the patients with lung cancer. Lymphatogenous spread is a more common route of tumor dissemination than the hematogenous spread. It was a retrospective case report. We hereby report a case of myocardial involvement by non-small cell lung cancer leading to an uncommon presentation of a malignant stroke and death in a peritoneal dialysis patient.PMID:36404986 | PMC:PMC9662106 | DOI:10.1007/s42399-022-01331-w

Bioinformatic analysis and clinical diagnostic value of hsa_circ_0004099 in acute ischemic stroke
This study investigates the expression and effect of hsa_circ_0004099 in acute ischemic stroke (AIS). We conducted a case-controlled study that included 40 patients with AIS within 24 hours and 40 healthy subjects during the same period as a control group. Differentially expressed circular RNAs (circRNAs) were obtained using GEO2R, and the expression of hsa_circ_0004099 was verified using RT-PCR. Correlation analysis of the National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) disease severity score and ischemic time with hsa_circ_0004099 expression levels was also performed. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve ...

Assessment of National Program for Prevention and Control of Cancer, Diabetes, CVD and Stroke (NPCDCS): An observational study in rural Jaipur, Rajasthan
CONCLUSION: The study concludes that the implementation of NPCDCS program activities is not in synch with the health staff awareness level. IEC activities were deficient and no work was done for adoption of behavioural change and healthy lifestyle. Actual cases of hypertension were more while cases of diabetes were less than the reported cases found on cross-check survey.PMID:36387714 | PMC:PMC9648218 | DOI:10.4103/jfmpc.jfmpc_2281_21
