Fifteen-Year Trends in Awareness of Heart Disease in Women: Results of a 2012 American Heart Association National Survey.
CONCLUSIONS: Awareness of CVD among women has improved in the past 15 years, but a significant racial/ethnic minority gap persists. Continued effort is needed to reach at-risk populations. These data should inform public health campaigns to focus on evidenced-based strategies to prevent CVD and to help target messages that resonate and motivate women to take action. Relation between Cancer and Atrial Fibrillation (from The REasons for Geographic And Racial Differences in Stroke Study)
Atrial fibrillation (AF) is common in patients with life threatening cancer and those undergoing active cancer treatment. However, data from persons with a history of non-life threatening cancer and those who do not require active cancer treatment are lacking. A total of 15,428 (mean age: 66 ± 8.9 years; 47% women; 45% blacks) participants from the REasons for Geographic And Racial Differences in Stroke (REGARDS) with baseline data on prior cancer diagnosis and AF were included. Participants with life threatening cancer and active cancer treatment within 2 years of study enrollment were excluded.

Rivaroxaban for Stroke Prevention in Patients with Non-Valvular Atrial Fibrillation and Active Cancer.
Rivaroxaban is broadly used for the primary prevention of stroke and systemic embolism in the general population with non-valvular atrial fibrillation (AF). However, there is little published evidence on the safety and efficacy of rivaroxaban for AF in patients with active cancer. The aim of this study was to assess the safety and efficacy of rivaroxaban in patients with active cancer and AF. Use of rivaroxaban in cancer patients at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) is monitored in the setting of a Quality Assessment Initiative.

Utility of atherosclerosis-associated serum antibodies against colony-stimulating factor 2 in predicting the onset of acute ischemic stroke and prognosis of colorectal cancer
CONCLUSION: S-CSF2-Ab was useful for the diagnosis of atherosclerosis-related AIS, AMI, DM, and CKD and could discriminate poor prognosis, especially in p53-Ab-negative CRC.PMID:36844744 | PMC:PMC9954151 | DOI:10.3389/fcvm.2023.1042272

Recurrent Strokes as the First Presentation of Occult Pancreatic Cancer; Trousseau Syndrome: A Case Report
We present a case of a 64-year-old female with recurrent ischemic stroke of unknown cause and involving different arterial territories, who was discovered to have metastatic pancreatic cancer. The initial workup with brain imaging revealed multiple acute/subacute ischemic strokes and a negative cardiac assessment. Accordingly, she underwent a whole-body positron emission tomography-computed tomography which revealed a hypermetabolic mass lesion in the pancreaticoduodenal area. Our case indicates that cancer-associated stroke should be seriously evaluated. It demonstrates the critical nature of contemplating hidden cancer i...

Blood pressure and prognosis in patients with incident heart failure: the Diet, Cancer and Health (DCH) cohort study
Conclusion We have shown for the first time that amongst a population with incident HF, higher baseline systolic, diastolic and pulse pressure levels were associated with a higher rate of adverse events. Our data support the importance for optimised BP control, as part of the holistic management of HF patients.

The combination of Helicobacter pylori- and cytotoxin-associated gene-A seropositivity in relation to the risk of myocardial infarction in middle-aged Japanese: The Japan Public Health Center-based study
Conclusions: H. pylori infection was not significantly associated with risk of MI and stroke among middle-aged Japanese. However, CagA positivity tended to be associated with MI.Highlights:
