Low-dose acetylsalicylic acid for cancer prevention considering risk factors: A retrospective cohort study
CONCLUSIONS: Our results suggest that aspirin intake is associated with a reduced incidence of colorectal, pancreatic, and prostate cancers and lymphomas.PMID:37302674 | DOI:10.1016/j.annepidem.2023.06.002

Combining gamma-tocopherol and aspirin synergistically suppresses colitis-associated colon tumorigenesis and modulates the gut microbiota in mice, and inhibits the growth of human colon cancer cells
Eur J Pharmacol. 2023 Mar 13:175656. doi: 10.1016/j.ejphar.2023.175656. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTDespite being shown to be effective for chemoprevention of colorectal cancer, aspirin has limitations including adverse effects and inability to block colitis-associated colon cancer (CAC). γ-Tocopherol (γT), a vitamin E form, has been reported to mitigate experimental colitis and CAC, prolong the anti-inflammatory activity of aspirin and alleviate aspirin-induced adverse effect. We therefore hypothesize that combining γT and aspirin is better than either compound singly for suppressing CAC. This hypothesis was tested i...

Diet quality and risk of gastric adenocarcinoma: The Multiethnic Cohort
CONCLUSIONS: In a multiethnic population, we did not observe overall significant associations between these dietary quality indices and risk of gastric cancer. However, among former aspirin users and never smokers, there could be a reduction of gastric distal adenocarcinoma risk with a higher adherence to a Mediterranean diet.PMID:36789943 | DOI:10.1016/j.ajcnut.2022.11.009

Gel immersion endoscopic mucosal resection in early gastric cancer with bleeding: A case report
Ann Med Surg (Lond). 2022 Sep 21;82:104743. doi: 10.1016/j.amsu.2022.104743. eCollection 2022 Oct.ABSTRACTGel immersion endoscopy was developed by Yano for the treatment of bleeding. In this case, we performed gel immersion endoscopic mucosal resection to treat a bleeding gastric cancer. An 80-year-old man, with chronic renal failure and on aspirin treatment for ischemic heart disease, underwent endoscopic treatment for multiple early gastric cancers on the anterior and posterior walls of the pyloric ring. An endoscopic submucosal dissection was performed for gastric cancer on the anterior wall; however, the removal of the...

Effect of frequently prescribed drugs on gastric cancer risk
Best Pract Res Clin Gastroenterol. 2021 Mar-Apr;50-51:101741. doi: 10.1016/j.bpg.2021.101741. Epub 2021 Mar 16.ABSTRACTGastric cancer is the fifth leading cancer worldwide. Infection with Helicobacter pylori represents the major risk factor, but only a small fraction of infected individuals will develop neoplasia. The progression of advanced gastric lesions to cancer is influenced by characteristics of the bacterial strain, host genetic and environmental factors. Recently, the effect of medications on gastric cancer risk has gained interest, because many commonly prescribed drugs affect gastric homeostasis. While non-stero...

Preparation of novel anthraquinone-based aspirin derivatives with anti-cancer activity
In this study, we synthesized two novel anthraquinone-based aspirin derivatives, Asp-X3 and Asp-X3-CH3, with therapeutic potential for gastric cancer. The structures of the two compounds were determined by 1D-, 2D-NMR, and High-Resolution Mass (HRSM). Asp-X3 and Asp-X3-CH3 could inhibit the growth of gastric cancer cells (SGC7901), yielding IC50 values 10-fold lower than that of Aspirin. Asp-X3 and Asp-X3-CH3 were less toxic to gastric mucosal cells, yielding IC50 values that were about 2-fold higher than the corresponding IC50 values determined with SGC7901 cells. Asp-X3-CH3 and Asp-X3 also induced SGC7901 cells to underg...
