Exploring missed opportunities for influenza vaccination and influenza vaccine co-administration patterns among Italian older adults: a retrospective cohort study
CONCLUSIONS: A sizeable proportion of older adults who received other recommended vaccines during the last influenza season did not receive SIV. This share of missed opportunities, which are subject to some social inequalities, may be addressed by increasing vaccine co-administration rates and implementing tailored health promotion interventions.PMID:37632235 | DOI:10.1093/eurpub/ckad155

Monitoring, prophylaxis, and treatment of infections in patients with MM receiving bispecific antibody therapy: consensus recommendations from an expert panel
Blood Cancer J. 2023 Aug 1;13(1):116. doi: 10.1038/s41408-023-00879-7.ABSTRACTBispecific antibodies (BsAbs) are emerging as an important novel class of immunotherapeutic agents for the treatment of multiple myeloma (MM), and are set to be more widely used in clinical practice. However, this new class of therapies is associated with a distinct adverse event (AE) profile that includes cytokine release syndrome and immune effector cell-associated neurotoxicity syndrome, as well as AEs leading to increased infection risk such as cytopenias and hypogammaglobulinemia, and infections themselves. As preliminary data with this clas...

A deficient immune response to SARS-CoV-2 in the nasopharynx is associated with severe COVID-19 pneumonia
Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) follows severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection and has caused high rates of morbidity and mortality worldwide [1]. The clinical presentation varies from mild illness to pneumonia, severe pneumonia that requires oxygen support, and critical disease with severe complications such as acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) and septic shock [1]. However, these clinical presentations could be influenced by surveillance strategies, the use of therapeutics and other interventions, vaccination, and evolving variants [1].

Engaging Multistakeholder Perspectives to Identify Patient-Centered Research Priorities Regarding Vaccine Uptake Among Adults With Autoimmune Conditions
CONCLUSION: A multistakeholder group identified key topics as critically important priorities for future research to decrease vaccine hesitancy and improve uptake of vaccines for adults with autoimmune conditions.PMID:37127530 | DOI:10.1002/acr2.11546

Respiratory perspective of COVID-19 in pregnancy
The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), caused by the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), was declared a global pandemic in March 2020 by the World Health Organization (WHO). By February 2022, the disease had infected more than 500 million people globally. COVID-19 frequently manifests as pneumonia and mortality is mainly caused by acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). Previous studies have reported that pregnant women are at a higher risk of SARS-CoV-2 infection and complications can happen due to alterations in the immune response, respiratory physiology, hypercoagulable state, and placen...

Cutaneous manifestations of COVID-19 and COVID-19 vaccination
J Dermatol. 2023 Jan 13. doi: 10.1111/1346-8138.16651. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIn December 2019, a new infectious pathogen named severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) was identified in Wuhan, China. Transmitted through respiratory droplets, SARS-CoV-2 is the causative pathogen of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Although this new COVID-19 infection is known to cause primarily interstitial pneumonia and respiratory failure, it is often associated with cutaneous manifestations as well. These manifestations with COVID-19 can be classified into seven categories: (i) chilblain-like skin eruption...

Impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on routine immunization services in Yerevan and vaccinations against COVID-19 in Armenia
Conclusions: The COVID-19 pandemic led to disruptions in the routine immunization process, but there was no significant decrease in the total vaccine coverage due to rapid scaling up of the vaccination services and catch-up vaccinations. Thus, the restrictions imposed during the pandemic did not affect the overall progress of vaccination.

Efficacy of Bacillus Calmette –Guérin (BCG) Vaccination in Reducing the Incidence and Severity of COVID-19 in High-Risk Population (BRIC): a Phase III, Multi-centre, Quadruple-Blind Randomised Control Trial
ConclusionsBCG is protective in reducing the incidence of acute respiratory illness (probable symptomatic COVID-19 infection) and severity of the disease, including hospitalisation, in patients belonging to the high-risk group of COVID-19 infection, and the antibody response persists for quite a long time. A multi-centre study with a larger sample size will help to confirm the findings in this study.Clinical Trials RegistryClinical Trials Registry India (CTRI/2020/07/026668).
