Association between cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor 2B antisense RNA 1 and zinc finger homeobox 3 gene polymorphisms and COVID-19 severity
There is no doubt about the cardiovascular complications of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Several genetic studies have demonstrated an association between genetic variants in a region on chromosome 9p21...

Role of Supplements in the Management of COVID-19 - A Comprehensive Review
Infect Disord Drug Targets. 2023 Mar 10. doi: 10.2174/1871526523666230310094646. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCoronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is caused by the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS CoV-2) and patients with COVID-19 may be treated primarily with SARS CoV-2-targeting drugs and the therapeutic agents assisting in the management of COVID-19 complications. This review focuses on the supplements like vitamins, minerals, herbal constituents, and others that help prevent or manage negative outcomes among COVID-19 patients. Spectrum of Mucormycosis Before and During COVID-19: Epidemiology, Diagnosis, and Current Therapeutic Interventions
AbstractPurpose of ReviewMore than half a billion people have been infected and 6.2 million killed by the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus type 2 (SARS-CoV-2) since the start of the pandemic in 2019. Systemic glucocorticoids are a double-edged sword, on the one hand, life-saving in treating COVID-19 complications while on the other hand, potentially leading to life-and-limb-threatening opportunistic fungal infections. Mucormycosis (MM) is caused by the mucormycetes family. Although rare, it is characterized by high mortality and significant morbidity. The gross similarities observed with other fungal infection...

Spike-mediated ACE2 down-regulation involved in the pathogenesis of SARS-CoV-2 infection
Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is still a global pandemic1. Angiotensin converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) is the major recognized cell-surface receptor enabling cellular entry of SARS-CoV-2 and SARS-CoV2-3, widely expressed in lung, cardiovascular system, gut, kidney, central nervous system and adipose tissue4. As a zinc metalloproteinase, ACE2 plays an important role in maintaining the homeostasis of renin-angiotensin system (RAS) 5-6.
