NVX-CoV2373-induced T- and B-cellular immunity in immunosuppressed people with multiple sclerosis that failed to respond to mRNA and viral vector SARS-CoV-2 vaccines
ConclusionsVaccination with two doses of NVX-CoV2373 was able to elicit a SARS-CoV-2-specific immune response in pwMS lacking adequate immune responses to previous mRNA/viral vector vaccination. For patients receiving S1PR modulators, an increase in anti-SARS-CoV-2 IgG antibodies was detected after NVX-CoV2373 vaccination, whereas in ocrelizumab-treated patients, the increase of antiviral T-cell responses was more pronounced. Our data may impact clinical decision-making by influencing the preference for NVX-CoV2373 vaccination in pwMS receiving treatment with S1PR modulation or anti-CD20 treatment.

Rare link between coronavirus vaccines and Long Covid –like illness starts to gain acceptance
COVID-19 vaccines have saved millions of lives, and the world is gearing up for a new round of boosters. But like all vaccines, those targeting the coronavirus can cause side effects in some people, including rare cases of abnormal blood clotting and heart inflammation. Another apparent complication, a debilitating suite of symptoms that resembles Long Covid, has been more elusive, its link to vaccination unclear and its diagnostic features ill-defined. But in recent months, what some call Long Vax has gained wider acceptance among doctors and scientists, and some are now working to better understand and treat its symptoms...

Jumping the Queue:Willingness to Pay for Faster Access to COVID-19 Vaccines in Seven European Countries
ConclusionWe find that most respondents would have been willing to pay for faster access to COVID vaccines (jumping the queue), suggesting welfare gains from quicker access to these vaccines. This is an important result in light of potential future outbreaks and vaccines.

Anti-N SARS-CoV-2 assays for evaluation of natural viral infection
CONCLUSION: Comparison between of three analytical systems available for anti-N SARS-CoV-2 IgG and IgM antibodies showed a general agreement when compared to detect total and G class immunoglobulins, while doubtful or discordant results have been highlighted for IgT and IgM class. Anyway, all the tests examined provide reliable results to assess the serological status of SARS-CoV-2 infected patients.PMID:37156408 | PMC:PMC10163944 | DOI:10.1016/j.jim.2023.113486

World Health Organization Says COVID-19 Is No Longer a Global Emergency
GENEVA (AP) — The World Health Organization said Friday that COVID-19 no longer qualifies as a global emergency, marking a symbolic end to the devastating coronavirus pandemic that triggered once-unthinkable lockdowns, upended economies worldwide and killed at least 7 million people worldwide. WHO said that even though the emergency phase was over, the pandemic hasn’t come to an end, noting recent spikes in cases in Southeast Asia and the Middle East. The U.N. health agency says that thousands of people are still dying from the virus every week. “It’s with great hope that I declare COVID-19 over as ...

Risk factors and characteristics influencing humoral response to COVID-19 vaccination in patients after allogeneic stem cell transplantation
DiscussionWe showed in our bicentric allo-SCT patient cohort, that a humoral response could be achieve after the regular approved schedule, especially for those patients who underwent immune reconstitution and were free from immunosuppressive drugs. In over 50% of the initial non-responders after 2-dose vaccination, a seroconversion can be achieved by boostering with a third dose.

The ‘invented persona’ behind a key pandemic database
When Jeremy Kamil started to sequence samples of the rapidly spreading pandemic coronavirus in the spring of 2020, it was clear where he should deposit the genetic data: in GISAID , a long-running database for influenza genomes that had established itself as the go-to repository for SARS-CoV-2 as well. Kamil, a virologist at Louisiana State University’s (LSU’s) Health Sciences Center Shreveport, says he quickly struck up a friendly relationship with a Steven Meyers, who used a gisaid.org email address. The two often exchanged emails and talked on the phone, sometimes for hours, about the pandemic and data sh...

Comparative Analyses of IgA Antibody Response of Non-COVID-19 Infected People Over 60 Years Old Following CoronaVac and Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccination
This study was aimed to investigate the levels of serum IgA response at 1st and 3rd month after vaccination of people over 60 years old who were immunized with CoronaVac and Pfizer-BioNTech. A total of 35 people living in the North Cyprus who have not previously had COVID-19 infection were included in the study. After the 2nd dose of vaccination, serum IgA levels were measured after the 1st and 3rd month with the anti-SARS-CoV-2 IgA (Euroimmun, Lubeck, Germany) kit. The statistical significance was determined as 0.05 in the whole study. SPSS and GraphPad Prism software were used for calculations, analyses and graphs. The p...
