I know I have been stupid---rheumatology
I am in a bit of a quandry. I have practiced rheumatology for over 30 years and still really enjoy it (most of it anyway). I have many patients (with very high patient satisfaction), have been subspecialty recertified twice, get my charts done on time, etc. Unfortunately, when I started working at my practice 14 years ago, it was a period of duress--my husband had lost his job during the recession (2009) and we had to move quickly. Anyway, my current practice didn't pay well--175K... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Seriously Looking at 700k-1M TC this year
Two verbal offers rn, possibly another one in the making... With all the economic downturn and recession talk, I plan to take them all and work til late nights and maybe also weekends. I will just pretend I am still in school taking a full course load, but each week getting paid 10k after-tax for my effort. In 2-3 years, I will have ~1M cash saved & invested, then I can gradually phase out and get back to a new norm. I guess fat FIRE is achievable after all lol. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

When will the economy collapse?
Follow up to my thread: http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=483449 How would a recession affect us. There were a couple of people saying there was no recession. Now the US economy is on the brink of collapse. The question is when. I have a bad feeling that it will start this week following Bear Sterns illiquidity. What do think? When will it happen? A month, 2 mo, 6 mo? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Recession = good?
Anyone actually hoping for a real recession? Some would argue we are in one now- but extremely low unemployment, robust consumer spending and strong wage growth make that a paper recession only. On the upside, a real recession would do more to curb this ridiculous inflation than anything the fed can do. The downside is that the stock market would take further hit, although hard to see how much. I think a real recession would do a lot to reset the us economy and might be good long... starting a pain practice amidst the uncertainty
Hello all, First, i hope you all are staying safe and healthy during the pandemic. I wanted to get some advice from you all in regards to opening an interventional pain practice in the next 3-6 months. Are times too volatile and unpredictable to open up a practice? Backup plan
I won't be applying until 2022 as I work to make my app more competitive as a non-trad pre-med. As I reflect on this future plan, pursuing a backup plan has recently been becoming a priority to address in case med school doesn't work out. The uncertainty of volunteer clinical experience opportunities during this pandemic, and the talk of increased competition in future application cycles during this ongoing recession has been leading to this thought. Another big hurdle I need to get past... Backup plan (Source: Student Doctor Network)

COVID-19 Long Term Implications on Job Market and Specialty Competitiveness
I was just talking with my girlfriend about this and I'm curious what you all might think. It's pretty clear there will be some long term Implications from this pandemic, particularly on the financial side of things. Do you think this will be impacting the future graduates in job availability and residency competitiveness? I thought rads got hit hard during the recession of 2008 because old docs prolonged retirement. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

During economic downturns, does medical school become more competitive?
I figure application volume increases disproportionally from the usual year-over-year changes when a recession strikes. This would primarily be driven by folks in finance and business being laid off (or taking substantial pay cuts) and turning to medicine as a “safe” path forward. Anyone have data or anecdotal experiences with this? (Source: Student Doctor Network)
