Trials to send referrings
I thought it might be good to have a running thread of recent trials or papers you’ve sent or will send to your referrings to create new referral patterns. I’ll start: Prophylactic Radiation Therapy Versus Standard of Care for Patients With High-Risk Asymptomatic Bone Metastases: A Multicenter, Randomized Phase II Clinical Trial - PubMed Radiation delivered prophylactically to asymptomatic, high-risk bone metastases reduced SRE and hospitalizations. We also observed an improvement in OS with prophylactic radiation, although a confirmat...

Radiation therapy for intracardiac metastasis
Dear colleagues , my patient 56 yo known to have a history of oligometastatic STS, recently presented with a secondary lesion in the heart. He was strictly asymptomatic. we decided to go forward with systemic treatment not considering radiation in this setting. Unfortunately, he passed away secondary to arrhythmia (most probably related to his lesion). 1- i would like to know about your experience in the indication of radiation therapy (SBRT or other ) to treat similar lesions? selection... ChatGPT from OpenAI
Write a Christmas story about cancer patients, radiation oncologists, and preauthorization in the style of George Lucas. Once upon a time in a galaxy far, far away, there were cancer patients and radiation oncologists. The cancer patients were in need of radiation therapy, but they couldn't get it because their insurance company wouldn't authorize it. The radiation oncologists were trying their best to help the cancer patients, but they couldn't do anything without authorization from the... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Radiation exposure question
Hi all, I have been discussing this question with a family member, so I decided to ask here as you folks are the experts on the matter. A pregnant female healthcare worker is worried regarding coming in contact with patients undergoing radiation therapy. What are the safety concerns for pregnant women working with patients undergoing external beam radiation vs brachytherapy vs IV radioactive materials vs any other common modalities? When I say "working with these patients" I mean mostly just... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

rad onc market
What happened to rad-onc in the last 5-10 years? When I graduated med school in 2010 it was a super competitive field and everyone made tons of money. I thought about it but didn't think I was competitive enough to get a spot. Now it seems like everyone is super down on the field. Is it due to oversupply? decreasing demand for radiation therapy? both? or something else entirely? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Derms do Rad Onc
Here are the recent office notes from a dermatologist. He's doing all the rad onc billing, as a derm (and getting paid too I presume). Billing for weekly 77427. Billing a daily sim (77280) and G6001. Literally doing IGRT for simple skin cancer. Only in America. This is a Medicare patient. When a Medicare patient gets billed for radiation therapy treatment, does CMS have the bandwidth/subtlety to know that it's derm doing the billing and not rad onc? The majority of radiation fractions... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg says she's cancer-free Thursday, January 9, 2020 Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg says she's starting the new year cancer-free.
