The impact of primary care quality on inpatient length of stay for people with dementia: an analysis by discharge destination
Centre for Health Economics - This paper examines whether the Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF) dementia review helps to achieve timely hospital discharge for dementia patients. It found that on average the length of stay in hospital for dementia patients is 18 days and that QOF dementia review had little effect on the length of stay. Do higher primary care practice performance scores predict lower rates of emergency admissions for persons with serious mental illness? An analysis of secondary panel data
This study aimed to test whether or not better-quality primary care, as assessed by the SMI quality indicators measured routinely in the Quality and Outcomes Framework, is associated with lower rates of emergency hospital admissions for people with SMIs, for both mental and physical conditions and with higher rates of elective admissions for physical conditions in people with a SMI. Consultation on Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF) indicators
National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) - NICE is seeking feedback on new QOF indicators for 2015/16. The menu of indicators includes six proposed indicators relating to hypertension, there is also a potential indicator to improve the general care for people who have a diagnosis of diabetes. Summary of recommendations for the NICE menu of indicators for the Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF)
National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) - This document outlines the proposed indicators to improve the quality of care provided by GPs. Ten proposed new indicators are on this menu, falling under four broad clinical areas. These include four on mental health and behavioural conditions; one of which is the percentage of patients with dementia who have a record of attendance at a memory assessment service. Does quality affect patients’ choice of doctor? Evidence from the UK
This study investigated the effect of practice quality on patients' choice amongst practices, allowing for other factors such as distance to the practice and gender and age of practice GPs.
