Assessing the uptake of incentivised physical health checks for people with serious mental illness
CONCLUSION: Our analysis supports the hypothesis that QOF incentives lead to better uptake of PHCs.PMID:38331443 | DOI:10.3399/BJGP.2023.0532 (Source: The British Journal of General Practice)

Urine ACR uptake in patients with a diagnosis of type 1 and 2 diabetes mellitus in a primary care setting: A cross sectional study
CONCLUSION: The study highlights the need for the reintroduction of such a QOF measure to enable regular monitoring of early signs of nephropathy, thereby allow the timely commencement treatment as deemed appropriate. Furthermore, detecting the development of such complications in diabetic patients, in a timely manner, has the potential to reduce the financial footprint associated with treating the complications resulting from this condition.PMID:37839987 | DOI:10.1016/j.pcd.2023.10.005 (Source: Primary Care)

Urine ACR uptake in patients with a diagnosis of type 1 and 2 diabetes mellitus in a primary care setting: A cross sectional study
A recent change in the diabetes Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF) retired the mandatory testing of urinary ACR. We designed a study demonstrates the impact of this change in a primary healthcare setting. This is relevant as a significant proportion of the NHS budget is spent on managing microvascular and macrovascular complications that result from type 1 and 2 Diabetes mellitus. Identifying potential biases in code sequences in primary care electronic healthcare records: a retrospective cohort study of the determinants of code frequency
Conclusions The frequency of diagnostic codes for newly diagnosed LTCs is influenced by factors including patient sociodemographics, disease inclusion in QOF, GP practice and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Natural language processing or other methods using temporally ordered code sequences should account for these factors to minimise potential bias. (Source: BMJ Open)

Consequences of the closure of general practices: a retrospective cross-sectional study
CONCLUSION: Higher exposure to closure led to larger practice sizes in remaining practices. Closure of practices changes workforce composition and reduces patient satisfaction with services.PMID:37230775 | DOI:10.3399/BJGP.2022.0501 (Source: The British Journal of General Practice)

Does recruiting patients to diabetes prevention programmes via primary care reinforce existing inequalities in care provision between general practices? A retrospective observational study
Conclusion Recruiting patients to diabetes prevention programmes via primary care reinforces existing inequalities between general practices in the clinical quality of care they provide. This leaves patients registered with practices providing lower quality clinical care even more disadvantaged. Providing additional support to lower quality practices or using alternative recruitment methods may be necessary to avoid differential engagement in prevention programmes from widening these variations and potential health inequalities further. Asthma medication adherence and exacerbations and lung function in children managed in Leicester primary care
NPJ Prim Care Respir Med. 2023 Mar 25;33(1):12. doi: 10.1038/s41533-022-00323-6.ABSTRACTPoor adherence to asthma preventer medication is associated with life-threatening asthma attacks. The quality and outcomes framework mandated primary care annual asthma review does not include adherence monitoring and the effect of poor adherence on lung function in paediatric primary care patients is unknown. The aim was to investigate the link between inhaled corticosteroid (ICS) adherence and spirometry, fraction of exhaled nitric oxide (FeNO) and asthma control in asthmatic school-age children in this cross-sectional observational s...

Prevalence of co-morbidity and history of recent infection in patients with neuromuscular disease: A cross-sectional analysis of United Kingdom primary care data
ConclusionThe burden of chronic co-morbidity among patients with NMD is extremely high compared to the general population, and they are also more likely to present in primary and secondary care for acute events such as infections. (Source: PLoS One)
