Towards Minimally-invasive or Non-invasive Approaches to Assess Tissue Oxygenation Pre- and Post-Transfusion Workshop (Day 2)
The goal of this workshop is to discuss potential next steps to facilitate the development of new technologies and/or biomarker panels to assess tissue oxygenation in a minimally to non-invasive fashion pre- and post-transfusion of Red Blood Cells (RBCs). The 2015 Transfusion Symposium identified tissue oxygenation assessment as a priority area. The development of minimally to non-invasive procedures to accurately measure tissue oxygenation are needed 1) pre-transfusion to predict who would benefit from RBC transfusions, and (2) post-transfusion to determine if the patient did benefit (and to be able to test the differenti...

T Cell-Based Immunotherapy Approaches for Gliomas
NCI's Center for Cancer Research (CCR) Grand Rounds As a physician – scientist, Dr. Okada has been dedicated to brain tumor immunology and development of effective immunotherapy for brain tumor patients for over 20 years. His team was one of very first to discover cytotoxic T lymphocyte (CTL) epitopes in glioma-associated and glioma-specific antigens. Dr. Okada also found critical roles for the integrin receptor very late activation antigen (VLA)-4 and the chemokine CXCL10 in facilitating entry of CTLs to the brain tumor site. Dr. Okada has translated these discoveries into a number of innovative immunotherapy clinical s...

Loss of Type I Interferon Negative Regulation – Lessons from Human Genetics
Immunonology IG Seminar Dr. Dusan Bogunovic is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Microbiology, Department of Pediatrics at Mindich Child Health and Development Institute at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York. He obtained his PhD in Immunology at NYU Medical School where he studied innate immune signaling in dendritic cells as a function of their ability to mount an adaptive immune response against melanoma. That work has inspired two clinical trials. He did his postdoctoral fellowship at The Rockefeller University with Jean-Laurent Casanova where he studied how host genetics contribute to inf...
