Class advice needed :)
Hello all, I'm trying to register for the Fall semester and would like to get some advice from you guys! I've taken pretty much all the prerequisites, and the remaining classes I'm interested in are: Neuropsychopharmacology vs. Pharmacology Molecular Toxicology Parasitology Other than pure science classes like Anatomy, Pathology, etc..., I'm not sure if these classes are offered in med school or related to Medicine at all. Malaria-resistant red blood cells for malaria patients?
Infectious disease docs, Do you recommend transfusion / exchange transfusion of malaria-resistant RBCs for Plasmodium falciparum malaria patients (especially now that parasites are becoming drug-resistant)? Some background for those unfamiliar with malaria: Type O RBCs (universal donor RBCs) are malaria-resistant along with sickle trait RBCs and many others. Evolution selected for type O RBCs and sickle cell trait RBCs due to a survival advantage with Pf malaria. These RBCs are found... Malaria-resistant red blood cells for malaria patients? What Parasite made me realize
After watching the movie I realized the parallels of being a pharmacist to the movie Parasite. At the beginning I got accepted to Pharmacy and I thought I would escape the slums and be among the rich. However this was just a lie. After many years, I realized the student loans and hard retail environment has not really done anything special for me. I am stuck making huge student loan payments and working away my life with little to no enjoyment at high stress levels. The final scene where... Is there a reason why Medical schools don't like vocational majors ?
I keep hearing this but its conflicting because not all vocational majors are less scientifically rigorous. In fact, my major is probably more rigorous than a typical biochemistry or biology major. I'm taking up MLS at the University of Maryland school of Medicine. Why ? Because I find the course work more interesting than bland and boring pure chemistry/biochem/biology. Instead, I'd be looking at the more clinical sciences like Pathogenic microbiogy, parasitology+ mycology, clinical... Is there a reason why Medical schools don't like vocational majors ? Naturopathic Doctor? Parasites in blood? What?
So my friend recently went to someone who has is a "Naturopathic Doctor." He told my friend that he had parasites in his blood and apparently showed him under a microscope in real time? My degree is in Medical Laboratory Science, (looking at blood under the microscope is kind of a big part of the major) and I've never seen a "parasite." Who are these people?
