How to make myself a more competitive applicant for vet school?
For background I am still a senior in HS and an aspiring vet. I have experience volunteering in spay/neuter clinics abroad in Mexico for about two years now. I’ve also volunteered/worked at a low cost mobile vet clinic that mainly did vaccines/microchips/spay & neuter. Additionally I’ve volunteered at my city’s animal shelter mainly during their drive through vaccine clinics and “spayathons”. I also currently work at a dog groomer as a bather/receptionist. I’ve also spent plenty of time... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Differentials for students
Hi all, We are becoming a new clinical site for vet students, and to make sure I am up to speed, when a student is presenting their problem list and then differentials, how do you like them in order? DAMNIT-V/VITAMIN-D? Have them say (for vomiting in dog) "it could be metabolic disease such as Cushing's, Addison's, DM. Infectious/inflammatory such as viral, bacterial, fungal, protozoal, parasitic or gastritis, gastroenterititis". It has been a long time since being a student! Any input is... Parasitology methods: intestinal helminth detection and identification — are both done in microscopy?
I finally made an initial title for my thesis proposal "Detection and Identification for Intestinal Helminths of Eurasian Tree Sparrows Passer montanus Linnaeus, 1758". The methods I chose for my investigation are simple fecal flotation and microscopic examination. But when I presented this in class, my instructor asked me " what methods do you use for DETECTION and IDENTIFICATION?". I was confuse since it was still not clear to me of where these processes takes place in my... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Finding research outside of your school's state?
I'm a OMS-1 student at a DO school that is outside of my home state. Initially, I was planning on doing a summer research program in my home state for the summer but could not due to scheduling conflict between my school's calendar and the research program's schedule. Currently, I'm stuck between the choice of going back or staying here for the sake of research. Currently, I'm mostly doing research due to the fact that I'm interested in gas and with Step 1 turning P/F, I feel like I need... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Sample Size for Prevalence in Wild Bird Epidemiology
Hi! I am a fifth year veterinary student at Aklan State University, Banga, Aklan. Currently, I am working on a draft for a thesis proposal (though I am still at the RRL phase) which is about the intestinal helminths of Eurasian Tree Sparrows in Panay, Philippines. Sadly, publications about the parasitology of the aforementioned species, I think, are scarcely available in the Far East. But I somehow managed to find few yet very useful literatures. However, there is one thing that I am not... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Should I go to medical school or not?
Hi, need in much need of advice here. So I had applied the cycle of 2021-2022 in which just 5 minutes ago, I have been accepted from the WL into a medical school to fill in their empty seats. However, I had already talked myself of applying to medical school a while back and had actually become more active in applying to programs such as AA programs (anesthesiologist assistant). Now I'm in a pickle as I'm not sure if I want to take the offer or not? On one hand, it's medical school, a... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

How many more credit hours should I do?
Hello everyone, I graduated in 2015 with an abysmal GPA (<3.0). I started a DIY postbacc that same year and realized I was struggling still (don't know why I expected a different result--I graduated and then went straight into it). In August 2020, I decided that I WILL do well in all classes from here on out. I guess something clicked in my brain. All the classes I have taken since 2020 are 4000 level science classes and here's what I earned: Parasitology: A Biology of Cancer: A-... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

P/NC Science Elective or W?
I am currently contemplating taking P/NC or to withdraw from my Human Parasitology course which is not a required course for my major. I am a senior so I am concerned that given it's my last year, it may be looked down upon. This would be my first P/NC or W on my entire transcript through 4 years. For an explanation, I recently switched my job to 11PM to 7AM, and given that the course is at 8AM, I have been missing classes or falling asleep during the class since from the previous day I... Politicians will now decide what treatment should be given to patients.
Judge’s order on refuted COVID-19 treatment raises old questions about medical authority The anti-parasite medicine is being studied, but results are not promising, health officials say www.deseret.com Doctors, hospitals and parents sometimes clash over the course of treatment for children with life-threatening illnesses, requiring the courts to decide. Psychiatric dermatologic conditions?
I'm doing a little powerpoint for a preceptor on title. I was just wondering if I missed anything. So far I have psychiatric parasitosis, body dysmorphic disorder, factorial dermatitis, neurotic excoriations and acne excorie, brimhydroso phobia, trichotillomania, onchotillomania, lichen simplex chronicus, and prurigo nodularis. Is there anything else I am missing that is psychologically related where a patient may end up in a Derm's office? Thanks (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Need Help on W/A section
I probably should have done this the very first day of May but I was exhausted from taking the MCAT on that day and wanted to take at least a whole week off; then my dad had a mini-stroke and things sort of got out of hand to which I figure the primaries didn't need too much other than the personal statement which I had felt comfortable with back in March and so I kind of procrastinated on it. Got back into the game only to realize how important writing the W/A section is with the 700... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Effect of research publication on internship/residency application
Howdy, folks. I have a fairly simple question. I am interested in pursuing specialization in either emergency or surgery. My grades are neither amazing nor terrible (3.2ish), but I did recently publish a first-author research article, which was a result of some parasitology research I have done during my DVM curriculum. Does anyone know how valuable this is in increasing my chances of securing an internship and subsequent residency? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

DIY Post-bacc Class Recommendations
Hey guys! I am currently doing a DIY post bacc and I just wanted to see yalls opinions on some of my class options. I just wanted to see what yalls opinions on what classes would be best! Heres some of the options: Concepts of Parasitology- 400 level. I have taken a parasitology class at a different college ( I got a C though), but this seems like a different class since this college has a parasitology class and then this concept of parasitology class. Also, I am currently a TA for a... DIY Post-bacc Class Recommendations (Source: Student Doctor Network)
