Comparing results of three measurement techniques used to determine the size of oropharyngeal airway in adults
CONCLUSIONS: Using different craniofacial anatomical landmarks to select the size of the oropharyngeal airway can yield significantly varied results for the same adult patient, thus posing a potentially fatal threat. To ensure effective and safe airway management, proper ventilation and oxygenation, it is recommended to follow the ISA (Initial Size Approximation) approach when choosing the oropharyngeal airway size in medical education, training, and clinical settings. Further research is needed to explore this matter, also in different populations.PMID:38153076 | DOI:10.26444/aaem/171023 (Source: Annals of Agricultural an...

Supplemental low-dose esketamine to propofol versus propofol alone on perioperative characteristics in children undergoing surgery: a prospective randomized controlled trial
CONCLUSIONS: Esketofol reduces postoperative pain and the need for rescue opioids, but it extends recovery time in the PACU and increases BIS without affecting other outcomes.PMID:37987990 | DOI:10.23736/S0375-9393.23.17550-X (Source: Minerva Anestesiologica)

Pharyngeal Airway Changes Following Mandibular Distraction Osteogenesis as Evaluated with Laryngoscopy
CONCLUSION: Following MDO, RS patients with TBAO have an approximate doubling of oropharyngeal width and an improvement in laryngoscopic grade. These findings likely contribute to improved oxygenation, OAHI and ease of intubation.PMID:37915226 | DOI:10.1177/10556656231204517 (Source: The Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Journal)

Comparison of Pre- and Posttreatment Airway Volume in Patients with Temporomandibular Joint Disorders Treated with Ultra-Low Frequency Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation Using Cone Beam Computed Tomography
Conclusion Posttreatment evaluation of the airway should be done after a period of 6 months for a more objective evaluation. A multidisciplinary evaluation of the patient is required in such cases. Comparison of Two Anesthetic Regimens on Extubation Time and Postoperative Recovery in Children Undergoing Ambulatory Adenoidectomy: A Retrospective Study
CONCLUSIONS: Remifentanil-pronounced anesthesia was superior to propofol-pronounced anesthesia in children undergoing ambulatory adenoidectomy, given that the former was associated with a faster recovery time from anesthesia without jeopardizing patient safety.PMID:37768264 | DOI:10.1016/j.jopan.2023.06.004 (Source: Journal of Perianesthesia Nursing)

Pilot study: Correlation between nasalance scores and cephalometric parameters in Estonian cleft palate children
CONCLUSION: The results showed differences in cephalometric parameters in the two groups. Still, we continue to collect data and plan to conduct the analysis on larger and more homogenous sample size.PMID:37436176 (Source: Stomatologija)
