Differences in DNA methylation status explain phenotypic variability in patients with 5p − syndrome
Cri Du Chat syndrome, or 5p − syndrome, is characterized by a terminal or interstitial deletion on the short arm of chromosome 5 that causes variable clinical manifestations, including high-pitched cry in newbo... (Source: BMC Research Notes)

Predictors of genetic diagnosis in individuals with developmental and epileptic encephalopathies
CONCLUSION: The predictive variables of genetic investigation in developmental and epileptic encephalopathies are first seizure in the context of fever and hypotonia, whereas atonic seizures decrease the chances of finding a genetic cause for developmental and epileptic encephalopathies. Regarding epileptic syndromes, Dravet Syndrome is highly associated with a positive genetic test, whereas epilepsy with myoclonic-atonic seizures, developmental and epileptic encephalopathies with spike-wave activation in sleep, and Lennox-Gastaut syndrome are rarely associated with a positive genetic investigation.PMID:38636144 | DOI:10.1...

Changes in bone mineral density in patients with non-dialysis dependent chronic kidney disease are associated with body composition.
Chronic kidney disease (CKD) and low bone mineral density (BMD) are highly prevalent and can co-exist. Parameters of mineral metabolism are associated with BMD in CKD, but other contributing factors may contribute. The aim of this study was to assess changes in BMD and its determinants in patients with non-dialysis-dependent CKD (NDD-CKD). (Source: Journal of Renal Nutrition)

Development and evaluation of a single-tube nested PCR with colorimetric assay for < em > Mycobacterium tuberculosis < /em > detection
Biotechniques. 2024 Apr 11. doi: 10.2144/btn-2023-0080. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMolecular techniques have revolutionized tuberculosis (TB) diagnosis by offering a faster and more sensitive approach, detecting Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) DNA directly from samples. Single-tube nested PCR (STNPCR) combines two PCR reactions with separate oligonucleotide sets in a single tube. Moreover, colorimetric methods in PCR products have been studied for pathogen detection. Thus, this study aimed to establish a novel system based on colorimetric STNPCR for Mtb detection using microtiter plates with IS6110-amplified fragments....
