Cell-based influenza vaccines: an effective vaccine option for under 60-year-olds
Wien Klin Wochenschr. 2024 Feb;136(Suppl 2):35-42. doi: 10.1007/s00508-024-02327-3. Epub 2024 Feb 23.ABSTRACTThe population < 60 years of age is also affected by a significant disease burden from seasonal influenza. It carries a high economic burden, mainly driven by influenza-associated productivity losses in the working population. Conventional egg-based influenza vaccines may experience reduced effectiveness due to antigen adaptation in eggs. In contrast, cell-based influenza vaccines are less likely to be affected by antigenic adaptations to the host system and showed better effectiveness in individuals 4-64 years o...

Long-term results after surgical basal cell carcinoma excision in the eyelid region: revisited
In conclusion, we are facing the same challenges in surgical BCC treatment as 30 years ago. The distribution of periocular BCC location, histologic subtype and recurrence rates mirror the literature und the general consensus. The recurrence rate increases with every operation needed. Sclerosing BCCs with deep extension at the medial canthus bear the greatest risk for recurrence. In such cases, centers of expertise should be consulted and additional treatment options should be considered.PMID:38349412 | DOI:10.1007/s00508-024-02333-5 (Source: Wiener Klinische Wochenschrift)

Effects of cardiovascular risk factors and pre-existing diseases on the short-term outcome of Takotsubo syndrome
CONCLUSION: Psychiatric, neurological, and pulmonary pre-existing diseases are more common in TTS than in STEMI patients. Interestingly, PD and CVRF do not seem to have any impact on the short-term outcome of TTS patients.PMID:38319434 | DOI:10.1007/s00508-024-02326-4 (Source: Wiener Klinische Wochenschrift)

Delayed diagnosis of a  transient ischemic attack caused by ChatGPT
This article outlines a case where an erroneous ChatGPT diagnosis, relied upon by the patient to evaluate symptoms, led to a significant treatment delay and a potentially life-threatening situation. With this case, we would like to point out the typical risks posed by the widespread application of AI tools not intended for medical decision-making.PMID:38305909 | DOI:10.1007/s00508-024-02329-1 (Source: Wiener Klinische Wochenschrift)

Layperson basic life support education in Austria: An overview
Wien Klin Wochenschr. 2024 Feb 1. doi: 10.1007/s00508-024-02331-7. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTEarly interventions of laypersons can improve the survival and neurological outcome in patients with out-of-hospital cardiac arrest. There are several organizations in Austria which train lay people in basic life support and raise awareness for sudden cardiac death. To obtain an overview of the various initiatives, a questionnaire was sent to 26 organizations, and 15 of the organizations (58%) replied. The geographical distribution of the organizations between rural and urban areas was illustrated in a map. Most of them are sit...
