Can Serum Histone H4 Level Be a Biomarker in Ulcerative Colitis?
CONCLUSION: Decreased serum histone H4 values may be used as an auxiliary marker in the progression and diagnosis of ulcerative colitis. Further studies are needed to delineate this relationship between clinical and laboratory traits of ulcerative colitis and serum histone H4.PMID:38454272 | PMC:PMC10837591 | DOI:10.5152/tjg.2024.22385 (Source: The Turkish Journal of Gastroenterology)

Endoscopic Characteristics of Early Gastroesophageal Junction Adenocarcinomas and Assessment for Invasion Depth: A Case Series Study
CONCLUSION: The posterior side and lesser curvature of the GEJ are the high-incidence sites of GEJ adenocarcinoma. Both forward and backward views during endoscopy should be combined to detect the lesion. Endoscopic characteristics such as Is or IIc morphology, larger size, red color with subsquamous extension, and disordered microsurface with local fusion may indicate a higher pathological grade and deeper invasion.PMID:38454273 | PMC:PMC10837581 | DOI:10.5152/tjg.2024.23312 (Source: The Turkish Journal of Gastroenterology)

Results of Nucleos(t)ide Analog Treatment Discontinuation in Hepatitis B e-Antigen-Negative Chronic Hepatitis B: NUCSTOP Study
CONCLUSION: Despite receiving NAs suppression therapy for a long time, HBsAg loss occurs rarely. Although it was not life-threatening, most patients experienced relapses and treatment should be restarted. In our study, whether it is a coincidence that all patients with HBsAg loss are patients in whom NAs are used sequentially due to lamivudine resistance is an issue that needs to be further investigated.PMID:38454274 | PMC:PMC10837598 | DOI:10.5152/tjg.2024.23463 (Source: The Turkish Journal of Gastroenterology)

Efficacy of Agmatine Treatment in Experimental Acute Pancreatitis Rat Model
CONCLUSION: This is the first study that evaluated the efficacy of agmatine in an experimental model of acute pancreatitis. Agmatine, an anti-inflammatory and antioxidant agent, had a protective effect in an experimental rat model of acute pancreatitis.PMID:38454275 | PMC:PMC10837605 | DOI:10.5152/tjg.2024.23017 (Source: The Turkish Journal of Gastroenterology)

Age Is a Risk Factor for Gastroscopy-Assisted Capsule Endoscopy in Children
CONCLUSION: A comprehensive assessment is required before performing capsule endoscopy, because age has been identified as a critical risk factor for the incidence of gastroscopy-assisted capsule endoscopy in pediatric patients.PMID:38454276 | DOI:10.5152/tjg.2023.22428 (Source: The Turkish Journal of Gastroenterology)

Gene Expression Array Analyses Predict Proto-Oncogene Expression During Perineural Invasion in Pancreatic Ductal Adenocarcinoma
CONCLUSION: This analysis showed that 9 core genes including JUP, CALM1, NES, EPHA2, ARF1, ORM2, TERT, IL18, and CXCL3, as well as NES/VEGF signaling pathway, have a relationship with the development process of perineural invasion in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma. Cox analysis and overall survival analysis suggested differentiation as an independent prognostic factor and key roles for these 9 hub genes in perineural invasion prognosis in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma.PMID:38454277 | PMC:PMC10837604 | DOI:10.5152/tjg.2024.21430 (Source: The Turkish Journal of Gastroenterology)

Association of Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Fatty Liver Disease with Cognitive Impairment and All-Cause Dementia: A Comprehensive Review
Turk J Gastroenterol. 2024 Feb;35(2):76-82. doi: 10.5152/tjg.2024.23629.ABSTRACTMetabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) is a significant public health concern, affecting one-third of the global population and posing a risk for progressive liver disease. MAFLD is characterized by hepatic steatosis and impaired metabolic status, which not only impact the liver but also other systems of the human body, making it a multisystemic disorder. Emerging evidence suggests that MAFLD and its associated pathological pathways may contribute to cognitive impairment, potentially through neuroinflammation and neurodege...

Acupuncture Versus Biofeedback for Treatment of Functional Anorectal Pain
CONCLUSION: Both acupuncture and biofeedback therapy reduced the pain of patients with functional anorectal pain. Biofeedback provided more relief in patients with pelvic floor dyssynergia, and acupuncture provided greater improvements in mental health status.PMID:38454239 | PMC:PMC10895862 | DOI:10.5152/tjg.2024.22516 (Source: The Turkish Journal of Gastroenterology)

Investigation of Clinical, Laboratory, Imaging Findings and Histopathological Features of Patients w ıth Gastric Neuroendocrine Cell Hyperplasia
CONCLUSION: Neuroendocrine tumor development rate was found to be 4.3% in the background of neuroendocrine cell hyperplasia. Two factors predicting progression from neuroendocrine cell hyperplasia to neuroendocrine tumor can be elaborated as the presence of polypoid appearance due to neuroendocrine cell hyperplasia as confirmed via endoscopy and dysplasia as confirmed via histopathological examination.PMID:38454240 | PMC:PMC10895882 | DOI:10.5152/tjg.2024.22681 (Source: The Turkish Journal of Gastroenterology)
