Adverse childhood events and mental health problems in cancer survivors: a systematic review
ConclusionThe association between ACE and mental health outcomes was significant in most studies. In order to improve treatment for this vulnerable population, it may be necessary to screen for ACEs before cancer treatment and adjust treatment, for example, by means of trauma-informed care (TIC), which recognizes and responds to the impact of trauma on individuals seeking healthcare. Older adults, appendicular anthropometric measurements, and poor functional performance are predictors of sarcopenia in individuals with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma
ConclusionEarly identification of easy-to-perform, cost-effective predictors of sarcopenia tends to favor the implementation of personalized therapeutic and supportive interventions in individuals with HNSCC. (Source: Supportive Care in Cancer)

A qualitative study of barriers and facilitators for health behavior change in low-income men with prostate cancer
ConclusionsThese outcomes suggest that motivation and determination can serve as protective facilitators encouraging healthy behaviors despite structural barriers low-income prostate cancer survivors may face. However, motivations challenged by financial constraints were not sufficient to guide healthy behavior change. With this in mind, we recommend that interventions promoting healthy behavior change among this population should focus on identifying and strengthening internal assets such as motivations, self-perceptions, preferences, and support systems. Patterns and influencing factors of exercise attendance of breast cancer patients during neoadjuvant chemotherapy
ConclusionFor both exercise interventions, group-wise attendance/training week decreased during chemotherapy despite good intervention ratings. While some patients never started, others trained almost constantly twice weekly. The study revealed that patients who are nauseous or experience pain may need more support to attend more exercise sessions.Trial Registration Clinicaltrials.gov: NCT02999074 from May 6, 2016. Evaluating a shared care pathway intervention for people receiving chemotherapy to reduce post-treatment unplanned hospital presentations: a randomised controlled trial
ConclusionThis RCT did not demonstrate a benefit in reducing unplanned presentations to hospital. The trial identified improved cancer-based self-efficacy in patients receiving the intervention.Trial registrationRegistered at Australian and New Zealand Clinical Trials Registry: ACTRN12614001113640, registered 21/10/2014. Discovering different acupoint combinations of manual or electro-acupuncture to treat chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting based on the complex networks analysis
ConclusionsWe found that the near-far collocation method has been commonly used for different types of acupuncture treatment in CINV. Zhongwan, Shangwan, and Liangmen have been mainly used as local acupoints, while Neiguan, Hegu, Quchi, Zusanli, Gongsun, TaiChong, and Neiguan have been mainly used as distal acupoints. From the effect analysis, acupuncture treatment of nausea manual acupuncture effect is better; acupuncture treatment of vomiting or electro-acupuncture effect is better. Trend analysis of quality indicators in palliative home care among terminally ill cancer and non-cancer patients in Taiwan: a 6-year observational study
ConclusionThe results of this 6-year observational study indicate a substantial increase in the number of terminal cancer and non-cancer patients receiving PHCS over the past decade. Furthermore, aging plays an important role in life quality of terminal cancer and non-cancer patients. (Source: Supportive Care in Cancer)

Prediction of gastrointestinal symptoms trajectories using omega-3 and inflammatory biomarkers in early-stage breast cancer patients receiving chemotherapy
ConclusionBaseline IL-8 and DHA predicted GI symptom progression in early-stage breast cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy. Future studies are required to evaluate how therapeutic intervention targeting these biomarkers may mitigate gastrointestinal symptoms in cancer patients. (Source: Supportive Care in Cancer)

Effect of Baduanjin qigong on postoperative pulmonary rehabilitation in patients with non-small cell lung cancer: a randomized controlled trial
ConclusionBoth Baduanjin qigong and traditional pulmonary rehabilitation methods can improve the postoperative lung function and quality of life of patients with NSCLC; and compared with traditional pulmonary rehabilitation training, Baduanjin Qigong may have certain advantages in relieving cancer-related fatigue and FEV1%, and may be another new method of home-based pulmonary rehabilitation for patients with NSCLC.Trial registrationClinical Trial No.: ChiCTR1900025121. Effects of pulmonary rehabilitation in hematopoietic stem cell transplantation recipients: a randomized controlled study
ConclusionPulmonary function, inspiratory muscle strength and endurance, and QOL preserved after HSCT. Expiratory muscle strength and maximal exercise capacity decreased even though PR during HSCT. Breathing reserve and restriction improved in the PR  + IMT group. In addition, minute ventilation and dyspnea were preserved in the PR + IMT group, while these values were worsened during two structured PR programs. Therefore, PR should be applied in accordance with the patient’s current clinical and hematologic status to patients undergoin g HSCT.ClinicalTrials.gov (19/07/2018, NCT03625063). Systematic review and meta-analysis of the effectiveness of expressive writing disclosure on cancer and palliative care patients ’ health-related outcomes
ConclusionFindings showed some benefits of EW for people with cancer, but not necessarily in anxiety or depression. Heterogeneity in the delivery of interventions and their content, and shortcomings in the methodologies used highlight the need for stronger evidence in the field through high-quality trials and consistencies in the protocol, focusing on outcomes that this review highlighted as potential outcome targets.
