Navigating the integration of lifestyle medicine in the close contacts of diabetic patients: A review of a prospective interventional study
Diabetes is a costly disease with a significant global health burden that is expected to increase in the years ahead. In 2021, 537 million adults were estimated to be living with diabetes. This number is predicted to rise to 643 million by 2030 and 783 million by 2045 [1]. Preventive strategies remain one of the cornerstones in the reduction of this burden. We congratulate Garcia-Ulloa et al. for assessing the effect of a comprehensive diabetes care model on lifestyle, metabolic, and mental health parameters in relatives of patients with type 2 diabetes [2]. Self-rated knowledge and competence regarding the management of chronic kidney disease in primary care: A cross-sectional European survey of primary care professionals
Diabetes is a major risk factor for chronic kidney disease (CKD), which is a leading cause of global morbidity and mortality and also associated with substantial costs to healthcare systems. Despite the current best practice standards of care, management of CKD in diabetes in the primary care setting remains an ongoing challenge. Using an online survey, we aimed to assess the self-rated knowledge and competence of primary care professionals involved in the management of CKD in diabetes in the European region. The Effect of Education of Patients With Type 2 Diabetes At Risk of Covid-19 on Symptoms and Some Metabolic Outcomes: A Randomized Controlled Study
Type 2 diabetes is one of the most common chronic diseases worldwide. It also has a high risk of morbidity and mortality in the covid 19 pandemic. Due to pandemic measures, disruptions have emerged in the care treatments of patients with type 2 diabetes. The present study aimed to determine the effects of telehealth monitoring and patient training on the symptoms and metabolic outcomes in the patients with type 2 diabetes who are at risk of COVID-19. Glycemic profile variability: An independent risk factor for diabetic neuropathy in patients with type 2 diabetes
Impaired glycemic control is a potential predictor for macro- and microvascular complications of diabetes, which could be recognized by glycemic variability. The aim of this 10-year prospective cohort study presented here is to gain a better understanding of the correlation between GV and diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) as one of the most common complications of T2DM. Early pregnancy particulate matter exposure, pre-pregnancy adiposity and risk of gestational diabetes mellitus in Finnish primiparous women: An observational cohort study
To evaluate the association between the exposure of particulate matter with an aerodynamic diameter of ≤ 2.5μm (PM2.5) and with an aerodynamic diameter of ≤ 10μm (PM10) over the first trimester and the risk of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), and to assess whether maternal pre-pregnancy body mass index (BMI) modified the GDM risk. Depression and diabetes distress in patients with diabetes
We aimed to identify the prevalence of comorbid depression, diabetes, and diabetes distress and assess glycemic control and rates of diabetes-related complications. While the presence of either depression or distress did not predict the level of glycemic control, certain macro- and microvascular complications were more prevalent with depression.
