Bipolar-ADHD comorbidity: screening for differences in neurocognition and virtual reality-based cognitive performance
CONCLUSION: Screening for deficits in sustained attention with an ecologically valid VR test involving distracting stimuli may be useful for identifying BD + ADHD individuals.PMID:38294688 | DOI:10.1080/08039488.2024.2309496 (Source: Nordic Journal of Psychiatry)

Virtual reality exposure therapy for fear of spiders: an open trial and feasibility study of a new treatment for arachnophobia
CONCLUSION: VRET-AP is a feasible alternative for delivering effective treatment for fear of spiders and the results motivate larger, randomized trials of VRET-AP involving participants diagnosed with arachnophobia.PMID:38295831 | DOI:10.1080/08039488.2023.2279643 (Source: Nordic Journal of Psychiatry)

Is there a prospective association between psychological distress as measured by the CORE-OM and treatment attendance and treatment duration? A follow-up study at a Norwegian Community Mental Health Centre
CONCLUSION: Higher patient-reported psychological distress as measured by the CORE-OM at the start of treatment was prospectively associated with treatment duration but not with treatment attendance or drop-out of treatment. The findings imply that patients with higher initial psychological distress need longer treatment but that treatment attendance may be related to factors other than the severity of distress.PMID:38270392 | DOI:10.1080/08039488.2024.2306217 (Source: Nordic Journal of Psychiatry)

What methods are used in research of firsthand experiences with online self-harming and suicidal behavior? A scoping review
CONCLUSION: Research into online self-harming and suicidal behavior is characterized by a lack of validated measurements and methodological transparency. The results emphasize a need for further development, testing, and validation of questionnaires and greater openness and reflexivity in qualitative methodology to enable cross-study comparison and advance knowledge of this complex phenomenon.PMID:38270399 | DOI:10.1080/08039488.2024.2306504 (Source: Nordic Journal of Psychiatry)

Which factors affect job satisfaction of doctors in psychiatry?
CONCLUSIONS: Psychiatrists seem to be torn between treating their own patients and having medically responsible for other therapists' patients. Time for patient contact and discussions with colleagues are crucial for psychiatrists' well-being at work.PMID:38247281 | DOI:10.1080/08039488.2024.2303314 (Source: Nordic Journal of Psychiatry)

Changes in pain during a depressive episode and relationship to cytokine levels in major depressive disorder
CONCLUSION: Our findings indicate that pain is a feature of depression. Pain levels and cytokine values didn't correlate. Pain at inclusion did not predict depression treatment outcome.PMID:38251060 | DOI:10.1080/08039488.2023.2290654 (Source: Nordic Journal of Psychiatry)

Effects of peritraumatic reactions on post-traumatic stress among Kahramanmaras earthquake survivors
CONCLUSION: The findings of the study revealed a robust association between peritraumatic reactions and both depression and PTSD, shedding light on the underlying processes in the development of trauma-related disorders. Early assessment of peritraumatic reactions may be useful in identifying individuals at risk of developing PTSD and depression.PMID:38165775 | DOI:10.1080/08039488.2023.2291548 (Source: Nordic Journal of Psychiatry)

A multifaceted approach to assessment of mentalization: the mentalization profile in patients with eating disorders
Nord J Psychiatry. 2023 Dec 22:1-7. doi: 10.1080/08039488.2023.2291177. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPurpose: The existing literature, however sparse, suggests an association between eating disorders (ED) and mentalization ability. The aim of this study was to investigate the mentalization profile (MP) in patients with ED. It was hypothesized that patients with ED would have a lower degree of mentalization ability compared to healthy controls (HC).Materials and methods: The study is based on a cross-sectional survey on a sample of patients diagnosed with ED compared to a HC group. Results and conclusion: A total of 88 part...
