Reliability of anterior medial collateral ligament plication of the elbow
ConclusionsThe 70 °-scope arthroscopic evaluation of the joint allows a direct evaluation of the inner aMCL status. Lateral subluxation of the coronoid process into the trochlea was observed and can be considered a sign of minor medial elbow instability. Mini-open suture anchor aMCL plication is an original techniqu e that enables an anatomic and minimally invasive ligament retension.Clinical relevanceThe authors introduce a valid and safe treatment of posttraumatic medial elbow laxity. Elbow Medial Ulnar Collateral Ligament chronic isolated insufficiency: anatomical M-UCL reconstruction technique and clinical experience in a mid-term follow-up
ConclusionsExcellent functional results indicate that M-UCL isolated reconstruction with autologous hamstrings described in this study is a reliable and replicable technique with a reduced incidence of complications. Resuming sports is consistently successful in our patients. (Source: Musculoskeletal Surgery)

Evaluation of long-term postoperative outcomes between mini-open and arthroscopic repair for isolated supraspinatus tears: a retrospective analysis
ConclusionThis study suggests that isolated supraspinatus tears can be treated with a MO or arthroscopic repair procedure with similar clinical outcome in the long-term postoperative period. The mean surgery time and the average costs are less in the MO group respect to the AS group. (Source: Musculoskeletal Surgery)

Grammont versus lateralizing reverse shoulder arthroplasty for proximal humerus fracture: functional and radiographic outcomes
ConclusionsRSA can be considered a valid solution for the treatment of PHF in elderly low-demanding population. Cuff conditions should be investigated before surgery for the indication of the adequate model. (Source: Musculoskeletal Surgery)

Frozen shoulder or shoulder stiffness from Parkinson disease?
ConclusionThe postural alteration observed in PD is the primum movens for shoulder pathology, since anterior tilt of the scapula, which occurs with the increment of thoracic kyphosis, yields to a subacromial impingement. A closed loop is then created, as the rigidity of the shoulder causes further alteration in the posture, which worsens the impingement syndrome and so on. (Source: Musculoskeletal Surgery)

Goldthwait technique for patellar instability: surgery of the past or here to stay procedure? A systematic review of the literature
AbstractPatellar instability is the pathologic condition where the patella is prone to recurrent lateral dislocation. The clinical results on large series of patients and long-term outcome of Goldthwait techniques have not been described in the literature. The aim of this systematic review is: (1) to analyze and summarize the available literature focused on Goldthwait procedure in the treatment of recurrent patellar dislocation and (2) to evaluate the clinical and functional outcomes of patients treated with this surgical procedure. A systematic review of the literature was performed to investigate the results of Goldthwai...

Reverdin –Isham procedure for mild or moderate hallux valgus: clinical and radiographic outcomes
DiscussionPercutaneous correction by Reverdin –Isham and Akin osteotomies seems to be effective in isolated medium-to-moderate hallux valgus. Stiffness observed is comparable to other percutaneous and open procedures but needs to be compared in a randomized controlled clinical trial to extra-articular percutaneous procedures without capsule d etachment in association with an internal fixation which allows an early mobilization.Level of clinical evidenceIV. Treatment strategies for central low-grade chondrosarcoma of long bones: a systematic review of the literature and meta-analysis
AbstractThe need for wide local excision (WLE) versus intralesional (IL) treatment of low-grade chondrosarcomas (CS) of the appendicular skeleton remains controversial. We sought to perform a systematic review and meta-analysis to compare different conventional types of surgical treatments for grade I CS in terms of: (1) rate of local recurrence (LR) and metastases, (2) functional outcome as measured by the Musculoskeletal Tumor Society (MSTS) score, (3) complication rate. Eighteen studies enrolling 695 patients met our criteria. Studies reported on WLE versus IL treatment (n = 7), and IL treatment with or without differ...

Percutaneous treatment of hallux valgus: What ’s the evidence? A systematic review
AbstractHallux and first MTP joint have a fundamental role in the transfer of the weight-bearing load during the normal ambulation. The aim of this paper is to review and analyze the available literature about the percutaneous surgical management of the hallux valgus to highlight its strengths and weakness, also comparing with other minimal invasive techniques. A systematic search of PubMed and Google Scholar databases has been performed, covering the period between 1981 and 2016. Various combinations of the keyword terms “PDO,” “hallux valgus,” “bunion,” “percutaneous,” “surgery,” “non-invasive,” ...

Correlation between MRI and hip arthroscopy in children with Legg –Calve–Perthes disease
ConclusionsMRI cannot be completely relied upon for identifying all the intra-articular pathologies in children with LCPD, although it has a good complimentary role. In patients with severe persistent pain with suspicion for joint changes, hip arthroscopy can provide a safe and efficient procedure (better than MRI) for eliciting the associated joint pathology.
