Neoadjuvant treatment in gastric cancer
SummaryDespite recent advances in the treatment of gastric cancer, mortality related to this disease is still substantial. Surgery and chemotherapy represent the cornerstones of patient management. Targeted treatments that include anti-angiogenic agents and the advent of immunotherapies can contribute to improved patient prognosis. Herein, we present an Austrian consensus on the systemic treatment of patients with gastric adenocarcinoma and lower gastroesophageal junction, including those with human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2)-positive disease. The consensus considers the curative setting, as well as first-li...

Real time experience applying CAR T-cells for B-cell lymphoma —What we have learned so far: Acute toxicity management
SummaryIn recent years, chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T ‑cell therapy for B‑cell lymphoid malignancies has become established in clinical routine in Austria. This minireview is aimed to provide an overview on the major toxicities of this novel treatment and describes the results of a minisurvey on CAR-T-related acute toxicities in the treatment of B ‑cell lymphomas among Austrian adult CAR‑T treatment centers. As expected, the most frequently reported side effect of CAR T‑cell therapy is cytokine release syndrome (CRS) grade 1–2 in all adult CAR T treatment centers in Austria, with a lower observed incide...

Molecular profiling in lung cancer
SummaryThe biology of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is driven by a  complex mutational landscape, and the detection of driver molecular alterations by next-generation sequencing is key for identification of druggable alterations. Thus, broad molecular profiling displays a standard-of-care approach particularly in patients with advanced adenocarcinoma at the time of the initial diagnosis, but also at the time of acquired resistance to tyrosine kinase inhibitors, guiding further treatment choices. Sequencing of plasma-circulating tumor DNA is of increasing importance in NSCLC diagnostics due to the easy accessibility,...

Multiple myeloma with central nervous system relapse: a  case report
SummaryA  62-year-old female patient with multiple myeloma presented with progressive analgetic-resistant headache. Cranial magnetic resonance imaging and lumbar puncture revealed myeloma relapse with central nervous system involvement. Local radiation and systemic therapy consisting of daratumumab, pomalid omide, and dexamethasone led to a rapid clinical and radiological response.
