Quantitative analysis of the color in six CAD-CAM dental materials of varied thickness and surface roughness: An in vitro study
Computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD-CAM) monochromatic restorative materials are gaining popularity because of their convenience and efficiency. However, studies that quantitatively analyzed color change associated with thickness and surface roughness are sparse. (Source: Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry)

Comparison of the accuracy of a cone beam computed tomography-based virtual mounting technique with that of the conventional mounting technique using a facebow
The introduction of digital technology in dentistry has resulted in a shift from conventional methods to digital techniques. However, mounting a digitized dental cast on a virtual articulator is challenging. Several techniques have been suggested to resolve this problem, but in the absence of a standardized method, digitized dental casts are often mounted arbitrarily on a virtual articulator. A concept to detect a subgingival finish line using an intraoral optical coherence tomography system: A clinical report
This clinical report introduces an approach for detecting the supragingival finish line by penetrating the teeth and gingival tissue using optical coherence tomography (OCT) technology. This approach was used in 3 patients who underwent tooth preparation with a subgingival finish line. Consequently, the subgingival finish line, typically challenging to discern clearly in intraoral scans, was identifiable in the OCT image. (Source: Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry)

Double-crown-retained removable dentures: Types and clinical application
A 55-year-old man wearing maxillary and mandibular clasp-retained removable partial dentures (RPDs) sought improvement in retention, support, mastication efficiency, and esthetics. Three prosthodontic treatment options were provided to the patient, who selected maxillary and mandibular conical crown-retained removable partial dentures (CCRPDs) without strategic implants. Oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) and satisfaction of the patient were evaluated before treatment and 2 weeks and 1 year after inserting the CCRPDs. A technique to guide implant placement with the long axis parallel to the path of insertion of removable partial dentures
This article describes a novel technique that allows the planning and placing of dental implants with their long axis parallel to a path of insertion chosen for a prospective removable partial denture. The technique is straightforward, uses digital technologies efficiently, and enables prosthetically driven implant placement. It also optimizes the outcome when dental implants are used in association with removable partial dentures. (Source: Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry)

Er:YAG laser debonding of zirconia and lithium disilicate restorations
Yttria-stabilized tetragonal zirconia polycrystal (Y-TZP) restorations of different formulations are being used increasingly in monolithic form for a range of clinical applications. Using rotary instruments to remove such restorations for any purpose is challenging, but they can be removed conservatively with erbium lasers. However, studies on how a laser penetrates different zirconias to break the cement bond between the tooth surface and the zirconia are lacking. (Source: Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry)

Effect of different surface and heat treatments on the surface roughness, crystallography, and phase composition of high translucency zirconia for monolithic restorations
High translucency zirconia (HTZ) has gained popularity as an esthetic computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD-CAM) material for monolithic restorations. A detailed comparison between different common surface and heat treatments with a non-treated HTZ control to explain the behavior of the material under stress is lacking. Effect of a digital assessment system for the preclinical tooth preparation of metal-ceramic crowns: A pilot study
Tooth preparation is a fundamental aspect of prosthodontics and serves as a focal point in preclinical courses. Conventional pedagogy relies heavily on the expertise of instructors, whereas digital technology has the potential to offer instantaneous feedback. The efficacy of a digital assessment system in comparison with traditional teaching methods remains uncertain. (Source: Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry)

Assessment of distortion of intraoral scans of edentulous mandibular arch made with a 2-step scanning strategy: A clinical study
Manufacturers of several intraoral scanners have recommended a 2-step strategy for scanning the edentulous mandible. The 2-step technique requires scanning one side first and then moving to the other side. However, whether inconsistency in stitching occurs that results in loss of accuracy or distortion is unclear.
