Practical guidance for the implementation of stress echocardiography
AbstractExercise stress testing has been widely undertaken for the diagnosis of heart diseases. The accurate assessment of clinical conditions can be conducted by comparing the findings obtained from the results of stress echocardiography with the changes in the blood/heart rate and electrocardiograms. Numerous overseas studies have reported the utility of stress echocardiography in diagnosing myocardial ischemia; in Japan, the use of this modality for this purpose was included in the national health insurance reimbursable list in 2012. Nevertheless, stress echocardiography is far from being a widespread practice in Japan....

Detection of angiographically significant coronary obstruction using resting transthoracic coronary Doppler echocardiography
ConclusionsResting TCDE can detect ASCS in the LAD, particularly at the proximal level, analyzing the ratio between distal and proximal flow velocities. These results could not be demonstrated in the RCA and CX arteries. (Source: Journal of Echocardiography)

The mystery of defining aortic valve area: what have we learnt from three-dimensional imaging modalities?
AbstractAortic valve area is one of the main criteria used by echocardiography to determine the degree of valvular aortic stenosis, and it is calculated using the continuity equation which assumes that the flow volume of blood is equal at two points, the aortic valve area and the left ventricular outflow tract (LVOT). The main fallacy of this equation is the assumption that the LVOT area which is used to calculate the flow volume at the LVOT level is circular, where it is often an ellipse and sometimes irregular. The aim of this review is to explain the physiology of the continuity equation, the different sources of errors...

Prediction of trastuzumab-induced cardiotoxicity in breast cancer patients receiving anthracycline-based chemotherapy
ConclusionMyocardial strain imaging has been able to predict pre-clinical changes in LV systolic function and GLS is an independent early predictor of subsequent reduction in EF in breast cancer patients treated with trastuzumab. (Source: Journal of Echocardiography)
