Steps to use artificial intelligence in echocardiography
AbstractArtificial intelligence (AI) has influenced every field of cardiovascular imaging in all phases from acquisition to reporting. Compared with computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging, there is an issue of high observer variation in the interpretation of echocardiograms. Therefore, AI can help minimize the observer variation and provide accurate diagnosis in the field of echocardiography. In this review, we summarize the necessity for automated diagnosis in the echocardiographic field, and discuss the results of AI application to echocardiography and future perspectives. Currently, there are two roles for A...

Coronary microcirculation and left ventricular diastolic function: comparison between patients on hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis
ConclusionPatients on HD had more advanced diastolic dysfunction compared to PD, independently of the presence of hypertension and diabetes. CFR did not differ between HD and PD patients, but it was significantly lower in diabetics and in patients with more advanced diastolic dysfunction. (Source: Journal of Echocardiography)

Prognostic value of tissue-tracking mitral annular displacement by speckle-tracking echocardiography in asymptomatic aortic stenosis patients with preserved left ventricular ejection fraction
ConclusionsThe present study suggests that TMAD easily and rapidly estimated by speckle-tracking echocardiography may be used as a simple method to predict occurrence of the cardiac events in asymptomatic severe AS patients with preserved LVEF. (Source: Journal of Echocardiography)

Review of the efforts of the Japanese Society of Echocardiography for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) during the initial outbreak in Japan
AbstractUnder the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, the Japanese Society of Echocardiography (JSE) has been working to protect medical staff involved in echocardiographic examinations and to prevent secondary infections caused by the examinations since mid-March 2020. This review aims to describe the footprint of the JSE's responses, focusing on the 3  months in which the initial outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic occurred in Japan. We summarized the six parts as follows: (1) the initial actions for COVID-19 of JSE, (2) JSE’s actions for infection control-associated echocardiographic examinations, (3) statements ...

Multimodality imaging in takotsubo syndrome: a joint consensus document of the European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging (EACVI) and the Japanese Society of Echocardiography (JSE)
AbstractTakotsubo syndrome (TTS) is a complex and still poorly recognized heart disease with a wide spectrum of possible clinical presentations. Despite its reversibility, it is associated with serious adverse in-hospital events and high complication rates during follow-up. Multimodality imaging is helpful for establishing the diagnosis, guiding therapy, and stratifying prognosis of TTS patients in both the acute and post-acute phase. Echocardiography plays a key role, particularly in the acute care setting, allowing for the assessment of left ventricular (LV) systolic and diastolic function and the identification of the t...
