Psychometric Characteristics of the Caregiver Contribution to Self-care of Heart Failure Index in a South American Population
Conclusions The CC-SCHFI is a valid and reliable scale to measure caregiver contributions to self-care maintenance, caregiver contributions to self-care management, and caregiver confidence in HF. (Source: Journal of Cardiovascular Nursing)

Benefits of Tai Chi Exercise Among Adults With Chronic Heart Failure: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
Conclusion Tai chi can be easily integrated into existing cardiac rehabilitation programs. Further research is needed with rigorous study designs and larger samples before widespread recommendations can be made. (Source: Journal of Cardiovascular Nursing)

Cardiovascular Risk and Outcomes in Women Who Have Experienced Intimate Partner Violence: An Integrative Review
Conclusions Intimate partner violence is a stressor that directly and indirectly influences women's cardiovascular health. Therefore, it is essential for healthcare providers to routinely screen IPV status in clinical practice. Targeted interventions, such as assessing women's coping strategies and evaluating their cardiovascular health using a total risk factor approach, are recommended to prevent or reduce the deleterious effects of violence on this large, vulnerable group of women. Effectiveness of Enhanced External Counterpulsation Treatment on Symptom Burden, Medication Profile, Physical Capacity, Cardiac Anxiety, and Health-Related Quality of Life in Patients With Refractory Angina Pectoris
Background Patients with refractory angina pectoris experience recurrent symptoms that limit their functional capacity, including psychological distress and impaired health-related quality of life (HRQoL), despite optimized medical therapy. Enhanced external counterpulsation (EECP) is an evidence-based alternative noninvasive treatment. Although physical well-being and mental well-being are equally important components of health, few studies have investigated the psychological effects of EECP in patients with refractory angina pectoris. Objective The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of EECP treatment in p...

Experiences and Management of Incidents That Influence Sleep in Patients With Cardiovascular Disease and Insomnia
Conclusion Patients with CVD and insomnia experienced both physical and cognitive distress from their heart condition and chose to adopt nonpharmacological insomnia management. Tailored professional support is needed to change precipitating behavioral factors to be able to treat insomnia, improve sleep, reduce symptom burden, and enhance quality of life. Mindfulness, Anxiety Symptoms, and Quality of Life in Heart Failure
The objective of this study is to examine the relationships among anxiety symptoms, dispositional mindfulness, and QOL in patients with symptomatic HF. Methods In this cross-sectional study, we conducted a secondary analysis of baseline data from 70 participants. We performed descriptive statistics, bivariate Pearson correlations, and multiple linear regression. Results The sample included 70 individuals with a mean age of 65 ± 10.5 years, 89% male, mean left ejection fraction of 45.7 ± 13.6, mean total QOL of 36.9 ± 21.7, mean total mindfulness of 82.2 ± 12.8, and mean anxiety of 4.8 ± 2.9. In multiple regressi...

The Symptom Experience of Patients With Atrial Fibrillation Before Their Initial Diagnosis
Conclusions The current study identified challenges participants experienced in developing awareness of their AF symptoms, the complex cognitive processes associated with evaluation, and barriers that made it difficult to respond to AF symptoms in a timely manner. Understanding the prediagnosis symptom experience from the patient's perspective is essential for the enhancement of current AF screening practices. (Source: Journal of Cardiovascular Nursing)

Examining Adherence to Medication in Patients With Atrial Fibrillation: The Role of Medication Beliefs, Attitudes, and Depression
Conclusions Specifying medication type is important when examining nonadherence in chronic conditions. Concerns about anticoagulants, rather than depression, were significantly associated with nonadherence to anticoagulants but not antiarrhythmics. Anticoagulant concerns should be targeted at AF clinics, with an aim to reduce nonadherence and potentially modifiable adverse outcomes such as stroke. (Source: Journal of Cardiovascular Nursing)

Mobile Electrocardiogram Monitoring and Health-Related Quality of Life in Patients With Atrial Fibrillation: Findings From the iPhone Helping Evaluate Atrial Fibrillation Rhythm Through Technology (iHEART) Study
Background Atrial fibrillation (AF) is associated with high recurrence rates and poor health-related quality of life (HRQOL) but few effective interventions to improve HRQOL exist. Objective The aim of this study was to examine the impact of the “iPhone Helping Evaluate Atrial Fibrillation Rhythm through Technology” (iHEART) intervention on HRQOL in patients with AF. Methods We randomized English- and Spanish-speaking adult patients with AF to receive either the iHEART intervention or usual care for 6 months. The iHEART intervention used smartphone-based electrocardiogram monitoring and motivational text messag...
