Derivation and validation of a nomogram based on clinical characteristics to diagnose endometriosis associated ovarian cancer preoperatively
ConclusionCompared to patients with OEM, those with EAOC exhibited distinct clinical characteristics. Our four-variable prediction model demonstrated excellent performance in both the derivation and validation sets, suggesting its potential to assist with preoperative diagnosis of EAOC. FSTL3 is associated with prognosis and immune cell infiltration in lung adenocarcinoma
ConclusionFSTL3 is significantly associated with the prognosis and progression of lung adenocarcinoma and the infiltration of immune cells. Thus, targeting FSTL3 and its associated genes in immunotherapy could be potentially beneficial for the treatment of lung adenocarcinoma. (Source: Journal of Cancer Research and Clinical Oncology)

Long-term survival of stage IV melanoma patients: evaluation on 640 melanoma patients entering stage IV between 2014 and 2017
ConclusionThis dataset comprises the largest available cohort of long-term surviving stage IV melanoma patients. Since 90% of patients in our cohort are still alive today, we expect an increasing number of long-term survivors in the future. Our data indicate the need for specific follow-up programs addressing the needs of long-term survivors. (Source: Journal of Cancer Research and Clinical Oncology)

Mitophagy plays a “double-edged sword” role in the radiosensitivity of cancer cells
AbstractMitochondria are organelles with double-membrane structure of inner and outer membrane, which provides main energy support for cell growth and metabolism. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) mainly comes from mitochondrial and can cause irreversible damage to cells under oxidative stress. Thus, mitochondrial homeostasis is the basis for maintaining the normal physiological function of cells and mitophagy plays a pivotal role in the maintenance of mitochondrial homeostasis. At present, to enhance the sensitivity of cancer cells to radiotherapy and chemotherapy by regulating mitochondria has increasingly become a hot spot ...

Incidence of second malignancies in patients with thymic carcinoma and thymic neuroendocrine tumor
ConclusionThe incidence of second malignancies in patients with thymic carcinoma and thymic NET is significantly higher than the patients in the normal population. The occurrence of second malignancies is not related to the use of different treatments. It is important to extend the follow-up period and add other screening methods. Value of high-speed videoendoscopy as an auxiliary tool in differentiation of benign and malignant unilateral vocal lesions
ConclusionThe golden standard in the diagnosis of organic lesions of glottis remains clinical examination with videolaryngoscopy, confirmed by histopathological examination. Our results showed that measurements of amplitude, asymmetry, and phase of vibrations in malignant vocal fold masses deteriorate significantly in comparison to benign vocal lesions. High-speed videolaryngoscopy could aid their preliminary differentiation noninvasively before histopathological examination; however, further research on larger groups is needed. Analysis of laboratory parameters before the occurrence of hepatic sinusoidal obstruction syndrome in children, adolescents, and young adults after hematopoietic stem cell transplantation
ConclusionIn summary, the laboratory parameters INR, aPTT, protein C, and ferritin were very useful to predict the occurrence of SOS. In addition, this is the first report on a significant association between SOS and high values of INR and aPTT after HSCT before SOS. (Source: Journal of Cancer Research and Clinical Oncology)

Natural products targeting the MAPK-signaling pathway in cancer: overview
ConclusionsCertain MAPK pathway inhibitors have been used for clinical treatment. However, the clinical feedback has not been promising because of genomic instability, drug resistance, and side effects. Natural products have few side effects, good medicinal efficacy, a wide range of sources, individual heterogeneity of biological activity, and are capable of treating disease from multiple targets. These characteristics make natural products promising drugs for cancer treatment. (Source: Journal of Cancer Research and Clinical Oncology)

The efficacy of immune checkpoint inhibitors therapy versus chemotherapy in the treatment of advanced and metastatic urothelial carcinoma: a meta-analysis
ConclusionICI monotherapy did not show statistically significant difference in OS but demonstrated higher ORR and lower incidence of high-grade ( ≥ grade 3) AEs. And a statistically significant OS and PFS benefit was found in patients treated with first-line ICI in combination with chemotherapy compared to chemotherapy alone.
