Review by the French Glaucoma Society on the roles of new surgical techniques in glaucoma
The objective of these new techniques is to reduce intraocular pressure (IOP) while limiting the risk of complications of conventional filtering surgery and allowing faster visual recovery. MIGS can be classified into three main categories depending on the route used to promote the outflow of aqueous humor: the trabecular route, the suprachoroidal route and the subconjunctival route. MIGS using the subconjunctival route are also called minimally invasive bleb surgery (MIBS). These new techniques do not replace conventional filtering surgery, which remains the gold standard technique, but now offer new alternatives for the ...

Long-term sequelae of photic eye injury from a solar eclipse
We report the cases of two patients who experienced photic macular injury from their early childhood due to observing a solar eclipse without protection. The retinal lesions are mainly macular; these can be serious and irreversible. They are the consequence of photochemical, photomechanical and photothermal reactions. OCT is very useful for the diagnosis of these foveal lesions. The visual prognosis of solar retinopathy is generally favorable. However, some patients may develop permanent sequelae with a decrease in visual acuity. Management remains empirical and controversial. Thus, prevention and public education remain t...

Creation and evaluation of a triage survey for ophthalmology emergencies
CONCLUSION: Our results suggest that a self-administered survey could be useful as a triage tool for common ocular emergencies. This survey could be performed better if complete by the patients with the assistance of emergency staff. Potentially helpful for high flow structures such as university-based hospitals, this triage survey might also help in comprehensive clinics or emergency departments.PMID:37945430 | DOI:10.1016/j.jfo.2023.09.016 (Source: Journal Francais d Ophtalmologie)

Efficacy and safety of intense pulsed light delivered by the C.STIM ® for treatment of Meibomian gland dysfunction
CONCLUSION: C.STIM® appears safe and effective in the treatment of MGD, although a randomized controlled trial is needed to validate these results.PMID:37945431 | DOI:10.1016/j.jfo.2023.09.015 (Source: Journal Francais d Ophtalmologie)
