An effective approach for the treatment of severe punctal stenosis: Bicanalicular silicone tube intubation with pigtail probe
CONCLUSION: In cases with severe punctal stenosis, a pigtail probe is an effective method for locating and opening the punctum, and punctal opening and prevention of restenosis were achieved by a bicanalicular stent.PMID:38320466 | DOI:10.1016/j.jfo.2024.104073 (Source: Journal Francais d Ophtalmologie)

Pediatric orbital Rosai-Dorfman disease: An unusual case
CONCLUSION: Rosai-Dorfman disease is very rare in its bilateral orbital presentation. Histopathological diagnosis remains challenging. In Africa, the presence of chronic oculo-palpebral tumor associated with or without cervical lymphadenopathy must raise the suspicion of Rosai-Dorfman disease after ruling out tuberculosis and lymphoma.PMID:38310692 | DOI:10.1016/j.jfo.2024.104070 (Source: Journal Francais d Ophtalmologie)

Primary open angle glaucoma and sleep apnea syndrome: A review of the literature
J Fr Ophtalmol. 2024 Feb 1;47(2):104042. doi: 10.1016/j.jfo.2023.104042. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe relationship between glaucoma and Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome (OSAS) has long been discussed, with conflicting study findings. OSAS appears in the most recent studies to be more of an aggravating factor than an independent risk factor for glaucoma. Patients with OSAS may develop a more rapid progression of primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG). OSAS may damage the optic nerve not only by increasing the intraocular pressure (IOP) but also by altering the blood supply to the optic nerve as shown by more recent work wi...

Blue light and intraocular lenses (IOLs): Beliefs and realities
J Fr Ophtalmol. 2024 Jan 18;47(2):104043. doi: 10.1016/j.jfo.2023.104043. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe first intraocular lenses (IOLs) used for cataract surgery transmitted both ultraviolet (UV) radiation and visible light to the retina. Colorless UV-blocking IOLs were introduced and rapidly adopted in the 1980s. Yellow-tinted blue-blocking (also known as blue-filtering) IOLs were marketed in the early 1990s. Blue-blocking IOLs were intended to simulate age-related crystalline lens yellowing to reduce the cyanopsia that some patients experienced after cataract surgery. When blue-filtering IOLs were introduced in North...

Atypical  Cogan's syndrome: A case report
J Fr Ophtalmol. 2024 Jan;47(1):104044. doi: 10.1016/j.jfo.2023.104044. Epub 2024 Jan 8.ABSTRACTCogan's syndrome is a rare autoimmune inflammatory disease, characterized by interstitial keratitis and audio-vestibular signs. The syndrome was first described in 1945 by David G. Cogan. Then, it was only in 1980 when Haynes et al. proposed diagnostic criteria for patients with other symptoms and was qualified as atypical form of Cogan's syndrome. Herein, we report a case of a 28-year-old woman with atypical Cogan's syndrome. The patient was treated with corticosteroids and received a cochlear implant.PMID:38194861 | DOI:10.1016...
