Therapeutic update on oral potassium exchange resin use in chronic kidney disease patients: a systematic review of randomized controlled clinical trials
J Pharm Pharm Sci. 2023 Dec 20;26:11892. doi: 10.3389/jpps.2023.11892. eCollection 2023.ABSTRACTHyperkalemia is a common electrolyte disorder in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) that increases in prevalence with the decline of glomerular fltration rate (GFR). Another risk of hyperkalemia is the use of renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system inhibitors (RAASi) and/or mineralocorticoid receptor antagonists (MRAs) in managing CKD and proteinuria. The treatment of chronic hyperkalemia is challenging especially for outpatients. Treatment options for hyperkalemia include the potassium exchange resins of which two new pota...

Third-line treatment patterns in HER2-positive metastatic breast cancer: a retrospective analysis of real-world data in Canada
This study presents the first real-world analysis of third-line treatment patterns in HER2-positive metastatic breast cancer (mBC) patients in Canada. The purpose was to assess evolution of clinical practice and identify unmet needs in post-second-line therapy. Retrospective data from medical records of 66 patients who received third-line treatment before 31st October 2018, and data from 56 patients who received third-line treatment after this date, extracted from the Personalize My Treatment (PMT) cancer patient registry, were analyzed. In the first cohort, the study revealed heterogeneity in the third-line setting, with ...

Traditional Chinese medicine for treating aplastic anemia
This article reviews the potential mechanism of traditional Chinese medicine or its active ingredients in the treatment of AA. These include improving the bone marrow microenvironment, regulating immunity, and affecting the fate of hematopoietic stem cells. This provides useful information for further treatment of AA with integration of traditional Chinese and Western medicine and the development of new treatment strategies.PMID:38022904 | PMC:PMC10679336 | DOI:10.3389/jpps.2023.11863 (Source: J Pharm Pharm Sci)

Current investigations for liver fibrosis treatment: between repurposing the FDA-approved drugs and the other emerging approaches
J Pharm Pharm Sci. 2023 Nov 7;26:11808. doi: 10.3389/jpps.2023.11808. eCollection 2023.ABSTRACTLong-term liver injuries lead to hepatic fibrosis, often progressing into cirrhosis, liver failure, portal hypertension, and hepatocellular carcinoma. There is currently no effective therapy available for liver fibrosis. Thus, continuous investigations for anti-fibrotic therapy are ongoing. The main theme of anti-fibrotic investigation during recent years is the rationale-based selection of treatment molecules according to the current understanding of the pathology of the disease. The research efforts are mainly toward repurposin...
